Their vacation was originally conceived by Neil to give Elisa a chance to relax after how busy she was at the bakery for Valentine's Day. Even the hotel they'd be staying at had been selected by Elisa for its full service spa. The plan had been to spend the long, holiday weekend with massages, facials and aromatherapy, interspersed with hot sex, but at this moment, Neil found himself wondering why they were even bothering to go now at all.

Yesterday's robbery at gunpoint had left Neil more shaken than he cared to admit, and he had spent that evening 'self medicating' himself by smoking pot, to calm himself down. When it was reveiled to him by Elisa the reason it happened was from a cursed cake, baked by Elisa's own hands, Neil didn't know how to take it. In fact, he was still upset, making the tension between them so intense, it was practically tangible.

If that wasn't enough, just before he left, Neil had posted in his journal a portion of the photograph he had of Jacob with Kendra. Elisa hadn't mentioned who sent him the cursed cake, but Jacob's comment told him everything. Neil hadn't really considered how other people would respond, but all the negative vibes were brining him further down. Guilt was gnawing at his conscious, but Neil resolved to remain hard-hearted. Jacob had been a bastard to him from the very first time they met - he deserved to be jerked around, damnit, no matter what everybody else said.

An hour had already passed on the road, the only thing breaking the silence was the CD playing rock music softly in the background. Neil was in the passenger seat, his elbow propped up on the arm rest. The cigarette in his hand was held at an angle so that most of the smoke would flow out the small crack he'd opened in the window. Lost in his own inner thoughts, he stared blankly at the scenery passing by, periodically taking a draw off the cigarette.
