Character Information:

Character Name: Luna Lovegood
Age: 15 3/4, swishy
Canon: Harry Potter

Appearance:
In a word? Stoned. Luna Lovegood is frequently described as having a dreamy or vacant stare, a slight swaying motion to her posture, and large eyes that gaze thoughtfully at rather mundane things for  excessively long periods of time. Her hair is long, pale blonde, and wavy, and in combination to her thin build and large grey eyes she looks rather waify. Her voice is lilted and often almost sing-songy in cadence, and she is typically wearing an expression of profound confusion, giving the impression of absent-mindedness despite her actual intelligence. Luna is also a girl that loves her accessories, and she makes lots of jewelry out of common place items such as radishes or Corellian brandy bottlecaps and then is very, very certain that they hold magical qualities.

Here is an awesome picture of her.

Personality:
At first glance, Luna appears to live up to the nickname her classmates have given her -- Looney Luna Lovegood. She's distant, seemingly absent-minded, and her dazed expression coupled with her lilted voice and non-sequitur conversational cues seem to portray less than the picture of sanity. To say she's a bit odd is an understatement. Luna is very abstract in her thinking patterns, not only looking outside of the box but wondering what the box is made of and whether or not it's actually a box or a circle.

However, this odditiy and estrangement from conventional behavior has its advantages for Luna. She is incredibly perceptive, and also empathetic. She can pick up on the slightest observations, and it's clear that even if the eyes have been staring at a rock for twenty minutes, her mind is always at work. In the novels, Luna was sorted into the Ravenclaw house, one which holds its strengths in logic, wit, and learning. She is vastly intelligent and clever, with one of the most open minds that the series has presented. She picks up on things easily, but the most important thing that Luna seems to gain from her mind is the ability to believe.

Luna holds many bizarre and unorthodox views on the world, and while this may earn her scorn from her peers, it also allows her to hold faith in the impossible and overcome any societal impediments. If Luna believes something is right, she will support it wholeheartedly, and her imagination doesn't limit that in the slightest. JK Rowling has stated that Luna is the most likely to 'think up ten impossible things before breakfast', and her creativity and ingenuity know very weak, if any, bonds. Luna goes into things feet forward, and knows that logical and bizarre aren't mutally exclusive terms.

In terms of temperament, Luna is very calm, almost airy about most things, and doesn't get frustrated or stopped by setbacks or obstacles. She is an open hearted girl who never lets what others say bring her down. Frequently while in school Luna has been bullied, but her attitude towards it implies that she is not even aware of said bullying. Things are always taken in stride for Luna, she hardly gets angry, and her very zen temperament has been a subtle pillar of support for her friends. Luna doesn't let herself become affected by the darkness that surrounds her growing up, instead she continues to be a positive personality clad in ridiculously bright clothing.

That is not to say that Luna is never offended or bothered. While rare, Luna clearly has a few sets of principles that she adheres to. There is next to nothing she won't do for her friends, don't insult her father's beliefs or newspaper or she will speak less dreamily (perhaps even crossly), and those who wish to do harm need to be stopped. Luna's modus operandi is almost simplistic, but effective, and she has never been shown to compromise it.

On the whole Luna is one third zen, two halves imagination, and one fourth absurdity. And if you complain about that adding up to be more than one, well, she would tell you that you simply aren't paying attention.

Background:
Luna's Wiki page. I am taking Luna Lovegood from the ending of her fifth year, directly after The Battle of the Astronomy Tower. I chose this canon point because I think Luna's mindframe fits the setting, as she is growing familiar with war as Voldemort's forces begin to rise.

Special Abilities or Weapons:
Like Draco, Lily, Tom and Snape, Luna is a magic user and witch. While only a fifth year by the canon point I am taking her, she is very gifted in several areas of magic, and especially knowledgeable in magical creatures and nature. Luna is shown to be very skilled in dueling, and mastered the Patronus charm extremely fast. She does best with abstract logic and is intensely perceptive to people and situations.

Sect: Jedi
Job: Luna would make an absolutely awesome Jedi Consular

Samples:

First Person:

[a girl with long blonde hair dressed in Jedi robes that are an odd shade of yellow sits on the edge of one of Coruscant's fountains, her bare feet kicking idly as she bites down on the end of a stylus in thought. After a long pause she finally speaks, as if she forgot the datapad was recording in the first place]

Oh. Hello.

[a smile]

It seems as though I have forgotten to say hello. Not now, of course, but before. Things were rather...busy.

[she tilts her head]

It's nice to meet you all. My name's Luna Lovegood.

[a gizka's head pops out of the fountain]

This is my new friend Polybius, he is not quite a snorkack but I believe he may be related to one.

[the gizka stares, shrugs, and goes back in to the fountain]

Third Person:

It was with a happy hum that Luna once again folded the Jedi padawan's robes that she had received from Master Kavar, dipping them in what had once been a refresher unit, but was now an impromptu dye basin. The neon blue liquid standard in all space toilets had been replaced with a bright, sunflower colored yellow, and Luna beamed as she dipped her clothes into it. So far she had dyed her underwear, some leggings, and a pair of boots.

A ribbit from the side of her distracted Luna from shaking loose the droplets of the outer robe's dye, and she turned to see a gizka perched on the side railing.

"Polybius," she greeted the tiny fellow that was always hopping after her. She rather liked him. He looked like he could have been a child of the Snorklack and her friend Neville's pet toad Trevor.

With a contemplative squint, she brought the robe and compared it to the shade of Polybius's skin. Yes, it was a very close match.

All the better to find the Snorklack. Luna believed they too were yellow, and perhaps from this planet, seeing as Polybius had the same clefted chin.

Anything Else: Draco Malfoy for a roommate please? :3?
