What a good choice. The vignette of Mackenzie King is unforgettable -- which is, of course, the point. Scott was such a curious poet -- prosy in a way, yet always such an interesting mind. When I came to Canada, at one of CanLit's high points, he was not much appreciated -- kind of "old", not very cool, a suit. Yet he has survived very well, and this poem is wonderfully apt. Thanks for bringing him in.

That is precisely the point. I am not sure that everyone else reading the post understood that. Nonetheless, I think the poem was enjoyed by all and that pleases me greatly.

Hello Janice,
I see that you have posted several times this week (you busy girl), so I decided to comment on just one, the most recent, this one, I hope that's okay with you. Oh and by the way thanks for the encouragment on my post and in tutorial, I know my finger blister will come back while I'm writing my essay tomorrow, I hope you're surviving as well. Our tutorial is cancelled this monday because Professor Kuin is away, a ta is doing the lecture, should be interesting. Anyways, now that I've drifted away from your post I'll drift back, I really enjoyed this poem even though I have to say that I didnt quite understand it. I think its about how language will always remain, it will always represent something,it will always carry a connotation. A word is a symbol that carries its own meaning. Am I way off???? But I liked it, it was a bit wacky and hey he's Canadian, and well that's just great.

Hello Lesley-Anne,

I am glad I was able to help you. As for me, I am doing quite well with my school work right now, thanks for asking.

I am also glad that you have enjoyed reading this poem. I find that each time I read it I pick up on another witty point that Scott has made. I believe that your understanding of the poem is quite right. Great job Lesley-Anne!

Hi Janice, the poem you picked was very interesting. I really liked the way it compared things, the ostrich with its head in the ground and Mackenzie King speaking for instance. I'm pretty sure that I didn't get all of what Scott was saying but I hope to do so eventually. Good luck with the end of the semester assignments!
