[France is nowhere to be seen on screen. In fact, he might not even be in the vicinity of this transmission. No, instead, the network has the very special treat of one newly evolved Politoed, gazing in a glazed manner at the screen, and, near by, the remains of what looks like a Department Store shopping bag. In the background, you can see the room ( Read more... )

[France frowns, confused.]

What's what? Are you hallucinating?

I am not hallucinating! There was a strange creature staring at me!

[Maybe he should be more specific.]

And it wasn't your normal strange staring Pokemon!

[France's frown turns into a scowl.]

You mean David? He just evolved. And he doesn't stare. He observes.

[He shifts the screen to the Politoed, who is sitting in a large basin of water. Slowly, David's head turns until he's staring at the screen. Those large eyes become even wider. He seems pleased to see you, Cobra Commander.]

Politoed...

[France rolls his eyes openly.]

David evolved. Of course he doesn't look the same. And observing can often be mistaken for staring: it involves focusing with your eyes as well as other senses.

I know how Pokemon evolution works! I also know that evolved creatures look like what they were before! Arbok looks like Ekans! Machoke looks like Machop! Golbat looks like Zubat! If you're trying to deceive me it won't work!

And I suppose you're going to tell me all the other times your other creature stared at me, it was observing too!

[France shakes his head.]

It doesn't always go by looks. How do you explain Magikarp evolving into Gyarados? Besides David was a Poliwag before, which is a tadpole pokemon; he evolved into Poliwhirl, also a tadpole pokemon, briefly before becoming a Politoed, which is a frog pokemon.

It's the same as how frogs grow on Earth.

Well, how was I supposed to know that ssssome of them actually do work like their counterparts on Earth? The Pokemon I've seen certainly don't!

[Sneer.]

Then you've just seen an abnormal amount of very strange pokemon.

For once, I agree!

[Grumbling.]

Ssso, does your frog do anything interesting or just observe?

[France looks momentarily disconcerted before he covers it up by nodding arrogantly.]

David engages in swimming on a daily basis, enjoys hopping in his new form, and is particularly vocal about what he wants for dinner. He also likes to ride in baskets and bags when he isn't being an impressive athlete.

[France's left eye visibly twitches.]

It's not boring. He's a gentleman.

Well, obviously for a person like you, it would seem boring! Even if you tried to act like a gentleman, you would simply make a fool of yourself as you fail publicly and spectacularly like you do at everything else!
