So instead of waiting until after 80 minutes to score, Liverpool goes one better and decides not to score at all, or even try. I got a stream to work at around the 75th minute and went "........" because oh god. Then Keane, with a through ball (which I'm ashamed to say Torres would have probably buried), had his legs taken out from under him before he could have a proper kick, but I never thought for a minute he'd get that called. And he didn't.

My issue with the current squad through three Prem games and two CL qualifiers is, no one has any frackin attacking drive. Gerrard when he's healthy, sure, and Torres, refreshingly. Carra's drive is protective; Masche's drive is destructive; too bad Pepe's superhuman powers are bound by the 16-yard box or we might be saved. Dossena seems to flicker in and out of focus, Xabi might as well be replaced by a human-sized pinball flipper some days, and Benayoun/Babel play like dying moths struggling to waft themselves toward some saving light but not quite finding their way.

The rest are all pylons. I'm watching four players and six pieces of driftwood dragged by the wind over a grassy beach. I get that Rafa wants the team to be in control, but ultimate control, as I pointed out fucking ages ago, necessarily comes at the sacrifice of urgency, or at least it's true for Liverpool. I'm seeing negation football, ugly for ugly's sake.
