Re: Liverpool, watched about 80 minutes of it, half of it passed out, decided we were playing like shit and went to bed. My word, they're playing like jammy bastards so far. I actually fell off my chair laughing when I saw the misadventures of Carra's right boot (and believe me when I say that I wore my "what would carra do?" shirt totally on accident today), and Gerrard's goal was as excellent as Mido's was. Did they deserve those three points? No, but they likely didn't last week at Sunderland either. Either way, this was one of those games that doesn't win the club any new devotees, but nobody's complaining since the points are in the bag.

I can't wait until Masche gets back.

I have lots of thoughts on Olympics football that aren't related to the final game at all. For now:

  • Anybody else remember Vanzekin at the 2005 WYC? He was really great in that tournament, just got unlucky having to face Messi's penalties in the final. He pretty much gifted Di Maria that goal by coming off his line like that, though.
  • I watched this game while I was at work. AT 11PM. AND I WAS STILL AT WORK WHEN THE GAME ENDED. AT 1AM. What the frack.
  • There really needs to be some sort of restriction beyond age. I'm happy that Argentina won, but they won with a team of professionals. I could expand this into a rant about how inconsistent the Olympics are at actually promoting olympism, and how profit and greed have replaced the former values of amateurism, but this is really not the place or time.

liverpool, argentina, olympics
