Nobody expected it happening the way it did. The city sinking like that....half the people dying. Kida didn't understand most of it; her father worked to keep it that way. She was young, and chances were good she'd be alright, in time.
She'd spent a long time in the water garden, staring blankly into the still pond surface, sitting on one of the rock columns that jutted up a few inches above it. Days, just crouching and rocking back and forth slowly to keep her feet from going numb.
Her mother was gone. She didn't need to be told; she hadn't seen her in weeks. She hadn't had the heart to go back to the bar, and had avoided all the doors she could. She didn't want to be away from Atlantis, or her father. Not now.
Four thousand years went by, and she went from a small, precious child to an adult, a hunter. She grew tall, and thin, and vicious with the intruders that ventured into the cavern, that didn't belong. No one would come into the city that she couldn't recognize, no one. and yes, she killed. Several of the groups, she and her party had simply killed on sight, without asking questions.
She only wanted the city to be left alone, they could exist as they were; they didn't need anything, or anyone from the outside. things were better that way...and no one died. She was alright with it, as long as that happened.
And then the day came when the door to Milliways came back, after all those years.
