Catching up

Jul 19, 2013 14:31

Things seem to have been on hold for a long time, but my life is starting to finally gather a bit of momentum again.

* P picked up the new car today. Oh, did I forget to mention that on top of everything else the old car exploded? Or rather a small, surprisingly significant part of the engine did. I've rather enjoyed walking everywhere recently, despite the heat, but it was nice to be able to a) go to Tescos and b) not worry about how to get the ice home before it melted.

* I've finally started reading a reviewing the sshg_promptfest. Not managed any of the multi chapter fics yet, but I'm getting there. As ever, I'm thrilled at the generosity if the gifts and the cleverness of those that share this ship.

* I've tentatively begun to write again. It's not much, but I have the startings of an ofic beginning to take shape.

* New job starts on Thursday. Why a Thursday seemed like a good day to start someone in a new role is beyond me, but it means no more phones after Wednesday!

* For the first time ever, I have a credit card. I have no intention of using it, but its very presence makes me feel like a grown up. Add that to the ISA and savings account (still very much in their infancy) and I almost feel like I'm in control of my finances.

I'd like to thank everyone again for all their well wishes. As my extraordinary Grandma had chosen to leave her body to medical research, we had a small ceremony before she left for Bristol University. Grandma was incredibly active in her parish church before she became unwell, and the vicar's voice actually broke a little when she spoke about her. Having been to funerals where the priest clearly has no knowledge of the deceased beyond their name, it was incredibly touching.

A larger service has been arranged for next Friday - we're expecting roughly 150 people to attend, which is a testament to how much of a busy body that woman was.

It's another gloriously sunny day here in Devon. I have a six day week fast approaching, so I'm going to go and have a nap in the garden in preparation.

*squishes you all*
