Hmmm.
I’ve meant to post so many times in the last week, but every time I come to write something the words just disappear. It’s not even as if nothing has happened - best work friend’s sister’s fiancé got arrested last week after stabbing someone in the neck. True story. His ooh-doesn’t-he-look-the-type face was plastered all over the This is Exeter website for a couple of days during the man hunt and everything. You bet I had opinion over that, but writing about it just didn’t seem to be an option. Being charged with attempted murder.
So, you know. Not great.
Family dramas continue, with 83 year old Grandmother having morphed from slightly terrifying matriarch to scared little old lady almost overnight. It’s tough for mum, who is our resident hypochondriac, but you can rest assured she’s finding ways to make it about her. Which sounds terribly bitter, but then family dynamics can never be all nice, can they?
The
SSHG_exchange has finished posting, which I’m secretly rather relieved about. I didn’t realise that committing to review every single post (including individual chapters) would be such a mammoth task. Especially the pausing part-way though a story in order to review, as I normally like to race through to the end to find out what happens. Trying to explain how a story is making me feel mid-read is pretty difficult, when my emotions will generally be set at blah, hah, or gah. As there is in con-crit allowed in the fest, it’s a bit embarrassing how many times the latter two have actually appeared in my reviews. *hangs head*
All these reviews does mean that I ought to have bothered aiming for Queen of Reviews, but saving the link to all those reviews sadly wasn’t going to happen. I have managed to claim an
exchange_bingo cover-up. I thought that was going to be it, as one of my other recipients didn’t get a story posted…. Until
christev pointed out that said gift was posted over a month ago, and I’d managed to miss it… Thanks, C! Of course, this means that you’ll be inundated with a flood of bingo card any minute now.
The other phew factor with the exchange ending - and this is going to sound a little bit special - is that I can’t read and write at the same time. Not properly. I think I may have written one drabble and one drunk fic since posting began. Like I say, special. The plus side is that I can read again (something I’ve not done properly for a couple of years) and am loving it. I’m ploughing my way through the Game of Thrones series - although that’s limited to what I can manage between calls at work as the books are too big to cram into my teeny handbag each day - and am enjoying it immensely. Although 83% of my favourite characters have been brutally maimed and/or killed. I’m to have to start rooting for the ones I previously hated.
Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to go and read that exchange piece I missed. And then sob uncontrollably because, relieved as I may be, the exchange is over and I’m going to miss it terribly. Especially if it is the last ever.
