Second post of the year

Because I'm just that busy. And because Livejournal seems to break every time I have a free moment to spend online.

I've nearly caught up with reviewing the sshg_exchange. I'm still waiting for the piece I created to be published (as are a thousand other participants, so I don't feel this is too much of a risk to my anonymity) and I'm starting to bite my nails over the whole thing. Some of the pieces are *so* good.

Went to see the Hobbit yesterday. I enjoyed it, although I can understand why some people were a bit iffy about it. It's definitely the prequel to LOTR, rather than a film series in its own right. The same scenery and the familiar score make it very similar before you see all the same actors from before (creepily made up to make them look 60 years younger than they are in the first series. It's a bit like young!Snape from HP8).

My Grandmother has been ill for a while. She was admitted to hospital yesterday for tests and they've found she has heart related breathlessness at night and ankle swelling during the day caused by a faulty heart valve. They're keeping her in for tests, but simply being confined to her bed and given oxygen is doing her the world of good. Fingers crossed.

I've had two lots of good news in the last week though. First I learnt that I had qualified for a pay rise (oh yeah!), then today I was informed that I was going to be taken on as a permanent member of staff from Feb 1st. I've been agency since May, so this is great news - no more worrying about having contracts extended!

I'm taking a break from writing to do a bit of reading. There are a few deeply_horrible pieces to review, snapecase has just started, and I'm devouring the Game of Thrones series. P got me the boxset for Christmas and I'm enjoying it in the way I haven't enjoyed a series in ages. I have a slightly worrying crush on the Hound, but as I'm only a few chapters into book 3:2 this may all change. Or he'll be killed off in the way that my beloved anti heroes usually are. *sigh* Is there any decent GOT fanfic, or is this a fandom best avoided?

Hope you're all well!
