Episode Zero, FFXIII Prequel Light Novel

Jan 03, 2010 23:47

As I posted in the main FFXIII community, S-E uploaded, a few months ago, a web-novel prequel for FFXIII. It featured 3 chapters and dealt with the lives of Lightning, Hope and Sazh in the few days before the beginning of the game. A week ago, said web-novel was officially published as a light novel with 4 previously unpublished chapters. 3 of the 4 new chapters deal with Vanille and Fang and their lives and relationship:

Chapter 2, STRANGERS
Chapter 5, SEARCH
Chapter 7, TOMORROW

- Fang is an extremely cute character when she is together with Vanille.
- Vanille and Fang became crystals about 600 years ago.
- Everything they saw after awakening was new to them.
- The first food they ate after awakening were vegetables cooked by Snow's NORA team and fish that Fang and Vanille caught themselves in the sea.  They didn't like the food much, it was bland and not very tasty.
- Fang likes salty taste.
- Fang cares a lot about Vanille and is always ready to rush to the rescue if anything happens. On the other hand, Vanille is worried about Fang and how much she risks her life to protect her.
- Vanille loves animals. She also cries and laughs a lot.
- Vanille is 17-18 years old, Fang is the same age as Lebrau.
- During the Purge Vanille thinks about Fang. She concludes that it wasn't for her, Fang wouldn't have to fight risking her life. She also doesn't mind becoming a Cie Corpse as long as Fang is able to keep on living.
- The last chapter of the book tells how Vanille and Fang became l'Cie several hundred years ago.
- Their families were killed by Cocoon's l'Cies and fal'Cies. After that they lived in Oerba's orphanage and grew close to each other.
- Cocoon's fal'Cie plundered everything from Pulse, from food to buildings.
- Fang turned her hatred towards Pulse's fal'Cie Anima because it couldn't protect the people of Pulse.
- Fang volunteered to become l'Cie in order to protect Vanille and Pulse from Cocoon.
- Vanille didn't want Fang to go away, so also she decided to become a l'Cie to be with her and try to protect her.

For those that know Chinese, they're currently doing a full Chinese translation of the new chapters in here. They're currently at the beginning of STRANGERS, the first of the chapters dealing with Vanille and Fang. Some kind people are currently trying to translate the Chinese translation into English, and while their work could certainly use some editing, at least everything is accurate enough to be read. Let's look forward to that.
