The Aggie Student Store (ASS) has been taken under the wing of CoHo manager Sharon Colson. They hired a new manger, Carlos Palacio who is a 27 year-old transfer student. I like him already. He's been hard at work cleaning and stocking as well as bringing some new, healthier products.
Speaking of the CoHo...they just switched all their coffee over to Beantrees, a 100% organic and fair trade company. I've tried the peruvian dark roast and the mexican light roast. Both were flavorful...better than Peerless and Pura Vida. I didn't know this but apparently the light roasts have more caffeine....the darker roasts take longer to brew and the longer a coffee brews the more caffeine that cooks off.
Good news from UCOP...President Dynes is drafting a letter that will be sent out to all the campuses informing them to give non-partisan groups (ASUCD) access to dormitories and dining commons for the sole purpose of voter registration. Now we just have to find volunteers.
LAMARWATCH2006 I watched Lamar at his first council meetings and I believe he is doing well. He stays above the bickering that has come to be synonymous of every Council meeting. He is also the new liaison to the City/Student Liaison commission, which met last week. He actually brought ideas and projects to the table, unlike past councilmember liaisons.
UCDPD versus TAPS......UCDPD gives seatbelt violations to TAPS employess and TAPS gives parking violations to UCDPD employees....UCDPD gave out 156 seat belt violations between May 15th and June 6th.....still trying to find TAPS stats...
UC Davis has the highest suicide rate among all the UC's, 9 from 2000-2005...all were male either Seniors or Graduate students...not sure if how much higher our rate is from other UC's as well as other non-UC colleges. A recent article also noted that while UC Berkeley only reported 1 suicide to the public they reported 11 when apply for a $74,000 mental health grant....a similar situation happened at UCD in 2000 with reported rapes..UCD was reporting 0 to the public and 12 to the FBI so they would receive a grant....
UCD also received $250,000 for playing and losing to Texas Christian in football....I could beat a dead horse and talk about a fire truck...but seriously who beats a dead horse?
