I finally saw Footlight Parade today, which is, of course, famous for its Bugsby Berkley designed
show numbers. And James Cagny dancing on a bar in a
sailor suit. It was actually quite fantastic and I can see why Joan Blondell's ability with physical comedy is literally to die for. The plot is a bit confusing, since there's actually six or seven of them running around. Suffice to say, in the end, everyone gets their man or woman, there are not one, not two, but three insane musical numbers and James Cagny saves the day. As it should be.
