I am feeling so completely frustrated. Last year, I donated money to Mt. Vernon Ladies Association, who are completely responsible, particularly financially, for the upkeep on Mt.Vernon (i.e. the government doesn't give them one penny). I always loved Mt. Vernon, so I gave them what little I could. It was a bad idea. Not only do they continually nag me for money, they sold my name to some Republican group. I don't like mail spam, but I could have forgiven them if it had been mailing lists for similar groups. No, I get letter after letter telling me how evil the Democrats are (check my party affliation) and how liberal groups are undermining our country (see who I give my money to). The groups are cheap, too. I end up throwing the letters away because the return envelopes require a postage stamp, and I'm not going to waste 37 cents giving them a piece of my mind.
Today's vitriolic mailing was on how the ACLU is ruining our country by suing the Boy Scouts. First, if I ever get a paycheck, I'm joining the ACLU, because I have a feeling I may need it someday with the way our nation is heading. Second, I would never, ever let a child of mine join the Boy Scouts. Hello, Homophobia! I want to teach my children tolerance and acceptance, not puritanical rhetoric that leads an organization to shun and actively destroy anyone involved who happens to be different from them. I don't know how to get these horrible things out of my mailbox. If anyone has an idea, please let me know.
