I have been walking around the downtown area on Friday nights. Mainly I go there to wait for my roommate to get out of the bar, and see if she needs a ride home. But the secondary reason is to observe the fine citizens of Grand Rapids and their unique interaction with one another.
cut to: an athletic blond guy is walking in front of me, puffing his chest out, and walking tall. Two other guys are walking towards the kid, wringing their hands. "Shake it off, man!", the blond guy says, trying to establish some camaraderie. "Fuck off, you fuckin FAGGOT!" "I'll kill your little faggot ass!"
--And GR is suddenly out of the running for the next "City of Brotherly Love"
Ahh yes, downtown. As I walk past the scrubby kids outside Skelletones, they try and stare me down with eyes of cold steel from too much exposure to plasma screens and LCD monitors.
I walk past Rumors, where the gays and transsexuals try and stare me down with glassy eyes and upturned noses. I walk past some new restaurant another block down, and finally a chummy doorman says "Hi". I'm predicting that restaurant will be closed within a year.
