As some of you may know, I'm a slight anime fan. Definitely not hardcore, but I enjoy the work of directors such as Miyazaki and Takahata--the deeper, more philosophical type of anime. But more to the point. So it seems, every Thursday night
Turner Classic Movies airs anime of this kind. Tonight (in yet another bought of insomnia) I caught the last half Isao Takahata's Only Yesterday. Personally, I found it to be wonderful little love story (sure, a little sappy but the Japanese version of "The Rose" that played when Takeo decided to screw city life and go back to be with Tashio almost got a tear out of me--for only catching half of the movie, the characters really grew on me) and I was hoping to put it on my
Netflix queue so that I might enjoy the whole movie.
Only it hasn't been released in the U.S. and it's doubtful that it ever will be; because Disney has deemed it unsuitable for America, I guess.
I hate Disney and their censorship: I want to know the whole story, damnit!
