1. Swords.
She’s always known swords; her father had them, and Uther, and Arthur, and Mordred; her life is measured in swords.

2. Sorcery.
They call her a witch, which isn’t true, not really.

3. Rogue.
All her life she’s a little apart, never really quite belonging.

4. Parti-colored.
The dress she puts on is crimson, and only later does she realize it’s the color of blood.

5. Duration.
If she could tell the future maybe she wouldn’t wake up every day thinking today will be the last.

6. Pillory.
Sometimes she thinks this-everything-is all her fault.

7. Chant.
She can’t sit here in this church anymore; she runs outside and looks at the sky.

8. Castle.
She stands at her window, watching the man ride up to the gates, and knows it isn’t her father.

9. Brocade.
The dress has a moon and stars embroidered on it, and she looks like the night as she strides into the room.

10. Priestess.
She is of Avalon, in more ways than most of the other priestesses would ever understand.

11. Dark Knight.
He swings his sword at her and she ducks, sliding off her horse at the same time; this isn’t going to be easy.

12. Evocation.
“Please, Arthur.”

13. Market.
She buys the child a ball, which he keeps even after she’s gone.

14. Ordeal by Fire.
The sticks piled in the courtyard convince her that the end is coming.

15. Ordeal by Water.
“You have to return it to the lake,” she tells Bedevere.

16. Dragonfly.
The insect lands on her hand, and she looks at it, wondering at how it shares a name with such a great beast.

17. Giant.
The man suddenly looms in front of her, out of the mist, but she’s past caring and turns away; perhaps she looks too much like a mad woman for him to follow.

18. Trickster.
Somewhere along the way, most of her truths became lies, and she’s still trying to figure out why.

19. Dungeon.
She’s learned how to shut her heart away from the things she has to do.

20. Scroll.
It has to be here, it has to; she pulls down another scroll.

21. Elemental.
She laughs as lightning spikes through the sky and rejoices as the rain falls on her face.

22. Ale.
She won’t drink because she doesn’t want to give up what little control she has.

23. Stew.
The house is small but the stew is warm, and it’s the most welcome she’s felt in a long time.

24. Staff.
It’s like she’s a part of their Round Table, even if she’s not, technically.

25. Lore.
They said she was a changeling, and it’s only now that she finds out maybe they were right.

26. Artifact.
Someone, someday will find the sword, but she tries not to think about what will happen then.

27. Guild.
Throughout her life, she’s always had the feeling that it’s her against the world; she doesn’t have anyone to protect her.

28. Lantern.
The lantern casts flickering light about, but it isn’t until she’s right in front of the gates that she realizes it.

29. Chest.
She has few possessions that she keeps with her-a lap harp, a few dresses, a dagger.

30. Alchemy.
She doesn’t practice magic, not really, because it’s something that’s natural, something she doesn’t have to practice.

31. Potion.
Potions give her the power to influence others, which she thinks isn’t the kind of power anyone should have.

32. Doppelganger.
The fey are the sort of creatures that you can’t look at directly or they vanish; it’s something she learned at a young age.

33. Arrow.
It sticks in the tree by her head and she thanks every god she can think of for her good luck or his bad aim.

34. Map.
She burns the map of how her life is supposed to be and moves on.

35. Coin.
In the old times, coins were placed below a person’s tongue before hew as buried, now she takes him on the journey herself.

36. Crusade.
“Gwen, this isn’t about a religious crusade; I don’t care what you believe in, I just hope you believe.”

37. Witch.
She’s been called a witch so many times that she’s stopped noticing.

38. Duel.
“Don’t do this” never works.

39. Boots.
She laces the boots up and sighs-she has a long way to go yet.

40. Chalice.
The cup, the chalice, the grail-she has trouble keeping them straight, these days.

41. Offering.
The little girls bring her flowers and she laughs, thinking maybe there is still good in the world.

42. Sacrifice.
The thought doesn’t cross her mind to throw herself between them for the simple reason that it would do no good.

43. Stained Glass.
She doesn’t hate the Christians-there’s beauty in their way of life, too.

44. Diadem.
As she watches the crown placed on her brother’s head, she feels hope.

45. Epic.
Her life would be part of an epic, but that was never something she could have predicted.

46. King.
“I am the king and you will obey me,” he says as she turns her face away-she can’t watch this.

47. Servant.
Guinevere laughs as she brings them food: “Why, Morgan, you’re acting like a servant.”

48. Fae.
She’s a changeling, of the fey, and, like it or not, that will always affect her life.

49. Prophecy.
“I can’t tell the future, Gwen; I can’t tell you if it will be alright.”

50. Destiny.
All of them have destiny on their lives, and in the end, they create an era.
