Festivids Recs
I love 
festivids . (This will not come as a great surprise to anyone, it's pretty much the only time of year I actually use this journal these days.) I love the anonymity of it as I'm guilty as anyone of often prejudging vids based on the vidder's name; I love the attention it lavishes on tiny fandoms that might not ever get that kind of attention otherwise; I love that it's a well-run exchange, with mods that listen to feedback.
And on a purely selfish level, i love that it kicks my vidding mojo into gear every year and forces me to actually finish something. :p
But, this year, I've barely watched a fraction of the vids that I want to - and not because r/l has left with with limited time like last year, on the contrary, I'm sitting in my pyjamas doing nothing this morning - but I think just because there's so many vids that it gets overwhelming. And I find that if I try to watch too many vids for fandoms I'm unfamiliar with in a row, my eyes glaze over and I stop paying attention no matter how good the vid is, so am watching those in small chunks at random.
Ah well. Have some recs for the ones I have watched (I loved many more vids than these, these are just the ones that really struck me):
Hot in Herre (Cabaret)
Utterly brilliant - takes the song and does something amazing with it, probably my highlight this year.
Love Will Win (E.T.)
Beautifully done and got me right in the heart.
We Got the Beat (Hello Dolly)
So much fun and fab editing of the dance numbers.
The Undeserving Rich (Jeeves & Wooster)
Genius concept, perfectly executed.
Outside the Box & Papa's Got a Brand New Bag (Maru the cat)
Considering everyone in the known universe's probably already seen these, no further explanations necessary.
What a Man (Pride & Prejudice)
It's a Darcy vid to Salt n Pepa and it's brilliant. This is what vidding is all about.
I wasn't going to do a recs list this year as I thought it would make it very, very obvious to anyone who knows me which ones I made, but hey, maybe not? I've been out of fandom for quite some time now, there's very few people actually reading this after all. :p
So I'll join in the trend; anyone who correctly guesses at least 2 of the vids I made gets a gift vid made for them in the fandom of their choice. :)
