My office is fah-reeeezing. I don't dare complain, though. They'd send someone to turn up the heat and it would become a sauna. Better an ice box; I can put on my coat if it gets bad enough. It's just so hard to type in mittens.
Saturday I spent cleaning up the yard, as devoted readers know. I went back to the compost heap to see what was going on back there, and since I had a shovel in my hand I decided to mix things up a bit. So, I dug a little here and dug a little there and suddenly.. clunk! I felt as though I'd hit a boulder. What in the world? So I probed a little more, from another direction. The same thing happened. So I scraped and dug and finally chipped a good chunk off of the boulder. It rolled over and seemed to be full of some kind of crystalline substance.
Yeah. You figured it out. Duh.
Of course, it was ice. I'm not used to digging in my compost and finding ice; I'm usually messing around in the compost a lot later in the year than March. The top 6 inches or so were nicely thawed, but everything under that was still frozen solid.
I guess I'll have to wait a bit to spread some of it around the garden.
