so i just read a lil
article that totally reinforces my love for ani difranco as a feminist and homebirth advocate. it made me smile and go "awww", and also was another little nudge inside as far as becoming a midwife myself some day. it's nice to have those reminders while i'm still in my "still too restless" phase.
also, i did something a little silly this morning, what with this week's head injury and all (but my stitches were removed yesterday!) i'm feeling the aftereffects, but i'm still glad i decided to go through with it, given my second thoughts. i just slept for three hours, and i still feel exhausted and weak, but now i'm really going to take it easy, which means no alcohol, no sugar, no caffeine, and lots of rest, whatever it takes.
sneak peek:
oh my goodness. right before we boarded the plane!
andy was the only one who paid for a photographer...he had the best seat in the plane, and jumped right before i did.
the door was open most of the time once we made our ascent. he loved sticking his head out and seeing the wide view as opposed to through a window :)
the photographer jumped right before him, and was able to get all of these bad ass shots...
this one's funny because it's right as the parachute went up, and it jerks you and slows you down right away. nice one of the scenery too.
i'm about to land! luckily someone had grabbed andy's camera and snapped away while we were still dazed and giddy.
....aaaand safely on the ground! so smooth and easy. i honestly had the best instructor ever. his nickname is batman :)
so relieved once we were both on the ground again!
the whole group with some champagne once we all landed. incredible. so happy.
yay!
i have to say, it was SO WORTH IT. this was my third time "jumping" (it's actually more like falling), and the first that i pulled the ripcord myself, and the first time i felt all of this confidence and pride. i did some arm turns and really had my positioning down (back arched as much as possible!), and totally fucking loved it, especially sharing the experience with a bunch of 12 friends, including my boyfriend. i think i was more anxious watching him go before me, than i was about my own jump, and once we both landed i kissed and hugged him and was just happy we all enjoyed it.
this is where we jumped. it's in gardiner, new york, which is just an hour and half north of the city. now i've done it over coastline/ocean (from long island, july 2005), mountains (the swiss alps, september 2005), and hills and river (hudson river valley, today)! i think the desert should be next...
