The Secret Wars Revisited
Whilst driving to the bank I got hit by a thought. A wonderful "What If..?" idea centering around the premise of the Secret Wars with Colossus and Shadowcat. I may do this, I may not. Just had to write everything down so I can go back to it later if need be.
1. What if the Secret Wars did not take place on Battleworld? What if the Secret Wars took place in an alternate reality? Kind of like the whole Exiles thing they've got going on now. Mutants don't exist in this reality--yet. Mutants aren't actually mutants, but genetic government experiments. The heroes--I haven't decided which ones just yet, but Colossus and Beast are definites--are the only ones that are "free" as they haven't been "tagged" by the government. Sentinels exist but are manned by pilots (not sure yet, but a mecha battle would be cool). A Nimrod program is automated and would be cool too.
2. 616-Kitty is left at home, naturally. The Kitty of this "Secretverse" is an experiment. She is about 18 or 19 and lives with a woman she thinks is her mother--really an operative. She has been experiencing severe headaches and she has been "recalled" for testing. The heroes arrive just as Col. Fury and his troops arrive to collect her. Colossus scares her to death by transforming into his changeform as she's never seen anything like it. Kitty has her phasing ability. All experiments are psychically orientated and the phasing ability doesn't appear to be psychic so that is why she is being recalled. They have no idea what to make of her. Mr. Sinister is orchestrating the whole thing.
3. Colossus and the others save this Kitty from going back to the government program (possibly a Weapon X or similar program) and Kitty and Colossus fall in love because, hey, it's a kiotr story. They bring down the government program (naturally) and all the heroes get to go home because that was the purpose of them being there (a la Exiles).
4. This Kitty eventually sacrifices her life to save Colossus and the heroes. When Colossus gets back to his reality, he breaks up with Kitty's younger counterpart because a. he cheated on her, b. he's saddened at the loss of the older Kitty. He later realizes his mistake and gets back with her.
