Food for Thought

So, people who have ridden in any vehicle with me know that I like to go fast. I take turns fast, I speed, and I generally seem to drive ... well, somewhat like a lunatic.

And yet, thus far in my time of driving, as fast as I go, I have not had an accident involving another vehicle. I've gone off the road twice - once on a hill after being startled by my phone going off, and once from hydroplaning because the road was slick... with mud. Neither of these times included a passenger in my vehicle. I have also only ever hit two animals - a rabbit (which actually hit me, since it leapt into my door as I was driving past), and a opossum. These animals both survived. I have seen plenty of deer, dogs, cats, foxes, raccoons, skunks (skunks kind of waddle, by the way - it is oddly cute), birds of all types, and, of cours, rabbits and opossums.

So, why am I saying all this?

Because yesterday, when I was on my way home from drill, I was stuck behind someone who, on a back road, was driving 15mph. FIFTEEN. I don't know what the fuck the driver was doing, but despite going so slow, they managed to hit a puppy. Despite the fact that the puppy's mother and its brothers and sisters were there, too, on the side of the road.

Yes, I drive fast. I drive fairly crazily. I know this. I don't drive stupid. When I drive fast and crazy, I pay attention to the damn road and watch for things like critters. Especially pet-type critters.

So the next time someone says something snarky about how fast I drive, and tries to say I will hit an animal, I will repeat this story to them. Because idiots who drive 15mph on a back road are worse drivers than I am.

wtf, reality, rant
