Hi there, Yuletide Author! Thanks for volunteering to write for one of my fandoms!
I hope you're filled with pleased emotions at reading your assignment. If you're filled with panicked emotions also or instead, that's okay, I still love you. And sympathize. (I think it's the traditional Yuletide spirit!)
If a story has already moved into your brain and began puzzling over Ikea furniture, do not worry about anything I say here. You are wasting time you could spend typing! But maybe that hasn't happened, and you would like more rambling. I can provide rambling. I tried to put lots of rambling in the details, but I always have more.
General Stuffs:
I like happy endings. I like unhappy endings. I like relationships where the history weighs on the present. I like plot and snark and characters acting like themselves and thinkiness and seriousfic and crackfic and I am *especially* fond of the story you end up writing for me; I used up all this year's time travel quota to check; you don't need to worry.
Please avoid rape, incest, and sex involving young children (there is a young child in one of my fandoms this year, so Just In Case). I've got a moderate mentor/student squick and a mild embarrassment squick - For the latter, if no one is forced to improv through a lecture on a subject they know nothing about, I will probably be okay! Less urgently, I'm not fond of whininess, character bashing or unmitigated fluff and I usually skim over the porniness. I know, why am I *in* fandom, amirite?
If porniness is your thing, though, go for it! You could do some interesting stuff with these people.
Specific Stuffs:
Polly And The Pirates - Meg Malloy
I have been craving the story of how Polly's parents met since the comic trailed off. 'Cause you know it is a story full of adventure and treasure and swashbuckling and betrayal and, i dunno, hot air balloons. But if you don't want to tell me that tale, there are others I'd be pleased to hear! Maybe Polly finally catches up with her mother? Maybe Polly has... interesting... guests to a school event? Or whatever you think of; I trust you :)
For this prompt, I'm hoping for something with similar internal logic of zaniness as the source. And... I am not sure what is left to add! You have great taste in comics, my friend.
Chris Moriarty - Spin State and Spin Control - Catherine Li/Hy Cohen
There is so much in this relationship to play with, so write anything and I will be extremely happy! I am endlessly fascinated with the way that Cohen's mind works (or, at least, the way his aggregate networks approximate a working mind). Also, with the poly aspects to their relationship (tell me, was 'enlightened introversion' truly the *only* reason router/decomposer stuck it out for so long?). Or with what it means that Li, who I'd peg near the upper end of the kinsey scale, happens to be involved with a male identified indiv, er, person. Just in general, I have so much fascination!
I was very happy to see more than just me requesting these books this year, so know that just by filling out the form you have made me smile. Easiest Yuletide Ever! I am most interested relationship between Li and Cohen, and I am totally okay with how it is complicated and doomed. (For now? Why isn't the next book out yet, I ask you.) Truly, I *like* that in an OTP! So if you would rather write them before or after they were together, I'd still be best pleased. Or if you prefer to write gen, there are other parts of the story I'd love to know more about. What sort of games *was* Nguyen been playing with everyone? What did Li *do* on Gilead, and is that for reals *this* time?
Man, I love these books so much. Whatever you do, I will have one happy Christmas present waiting!
Legion of Superheroes (comic) - Supergirl
Okay, so, I would be totally pleased with a story about Kara having adventures with her future friends, and I have only picked the one character because I cannot imagine how much work it would be to agree to write a subset of that character list. Add in whoever is your favourite! Set it in whichever universe you prefer! Bonus points for wacky comic book space science. None, any, or all pairings welcomed.
You are probably looking at Pre-Crisis or Threeboot, considering how the timelines mesh up. I do have a Geoff-Johns-writing-the-legion squick (I am not even saying he is *bad* at it; it is an actual squick.), but as *you* are unlikely to be Geoff Johns, feel free to use the Retroboot if you've got a neat idea. (And if you *are* actually Geoff Johns, um. Polly and the Pirates is a light 6 issue read, and Chris Moriarty's series is two books long. Maybe one of them will inspire you instead?) And I'm more concerned about story than continuity porn, so don't feel guilty about smoothing the rough edges.
I could ramble on for paragraphs about the platonic ideal version of Kara who lives in *my* head, but that would be too tl:dr (Though I'll say that I thought it appropriate she was sorted into the science guild, and that if you are interested, my sg fic is
here. Most of it's request ficlets.) I don't actively dislike any Legionnaires except Wildfire, and if you *do* feel like writing a pairing but cannot decide which, I am probably *most* interested in her with Brainiac 5. (Or how about femslash? That Vi is hot, y/y?) I was totally not lying about the "any" though!
Thank you again for signing up for one of these! I am grinning in anticipation; whichever section I was rambling in, I was thinking, yes! This one! I hope they matched on this one I would be in love! And then I moved to the next fandom and it was the same thing! That's gotta be a good sign.
PS, don't be frightened by the wacky punctuation in the emailed requests. It is just that Yuletide signups don't like ellipses for some reason... *shrugs*
