A functioning computer!

Can you guess who has already broken her self imposed rule to not eat or drink anything near her fancy new gaming computer...? It would kind of suck if I were to spill coke all over everything before I've had a chance to play anything on it, but I'm weak and love my caffeine ( Read more... )

nonsense, video games, computer junk

I SO understand you!

I remember that my old computer refused to let me play several games. They would start, and a few seconds late the screen would freeze or I'd get an error message, and no amount of tech assistance could help. I tried different settings, I tried patches, I tried disinstalling other programs that might have gone in conflict... Nothing worked.

Then I got a new computer, and just like that, all problems vanished. One click, and the games would run smooth as oil.

Say, if your computer can now handle more recent games, would you care to try Portal? It was state-of-the-art back when it was published, but it's a 2007 game, so nowadays even a moderately decent computer should be able to run it fine.

It's the game that spawned the "the cake is a lie!" meme (the big bad promises you cake at the beginning of the game. But it's a trap, there is no cake! Deceitful bastard!)

I haven't played it yet. It was on sale on Steam some time ago for a couple of dollars, and since I had heard extremely good things about it (intelligent, creative and original puzzle/shooter game, and as far as I know the only mainstream game in existence whose main character is a woman of colour), I grabbed one copy for myself an an extra copy to gift the first person in my flist who showed interest.

Since I haven't played it yet (currently busy playing a Castlevania game), I can't personally confirm that the game is great, I've only heard that it's great. But if you are interested, it's yours :)

Portal can be beaten in 2-4 hours (depending on how good you are at solving puzzles), so you could easily start and finish it in a single evening.

I was actually thinking of buying the Orange Box off Steam, with Portal in mind since I already have TF2 and while Half Life 2 is supposedly really good it's not something I'd ordinarily consider on its own.

I wouldn't mind taking the game off your hands. It has been on my 'I should try this' for a while (along with the Silent Hill series, the Prince of Persia games and a few others...

I really need to check out the Steam store more often. Maybe I can find something to share.

Cool. I'm in a hurry now, my sister is waiting for me to go shopping with her, but when I get back I'll send you the game :)

Oh, Prince of Persia, I'm a huge fan of that series! :D

Well, ok, to be more specific, I'm a huge fan of the Sands of Time series without the second game of the series Warrior Within. I thought WW was rather crappy, pathetically confusing "child-unfriendly" with "mature". Thankfully the developers pulled a Author Saving Throw and the third game is fantastic.

I'm a total Prince/Farah shipper and I LOVE the Dark Prince and his sexy sexy voice.

Steam is exceptional during the big sales (so many awesome games at 75% discount! Batman: Arkham Asylum for $5!), but normally its prices are fairly standard and uninteresting. I usually wait for a big sale (there is always one around Christmas time, and usually one at Summer too) and buy a whole bunch of games at great bargains, then calmly play them during the next half year or so. I feel like a bear stocking up on food before hibernation :P

I hate when that happens.

I should learn to be a smarter shopper. I tend to just impulse buy...
