The Poop Deck is a biker bar on Seawall Boulevard in Galveston. (For those of you not familiar with the area, Seawall Boulevard runs alongside the Galveston Seawall. One side of the road is lined with buildings, the other has a sidewalk at the top of the wall.)

We're fine. Dallas is a 4 to 5 hour drive from where Hurricane Ike came ashore and it's passing a couple hours' drive to the east of us as a tropical storm. It's just been cloudy and a bit windy in our neighborhood.

We're fine. Dallas is a 4 to 5 hour drive inland and Ike is passing well to the east of us as a tropical storm. It's just been cloudy and a bit windy in our neighborhood.

Yeah. There's another news photo showing a boat in the middle of a divided road in Galveston, like it's sitting in the middle of the turn lane. It's unfortunate for the boat and its people, but it's funny in a "buh?" way.

I read that UTMB Hospital on the island got 3 1/2 feet of water on its ground floor, which means the funky breakfast place near it probably got swamped. It's one of those places that clearly used to be some chain but you can't quite place what one; their big sign looks like a Waffle Hut sign but reads "PANCAKES". They laid out a great breakfast buffet on the cheap.
