Thinking aloud about costuming, an MP3 player holder and new portable sewing tables.

Scouts and leaders are encouraged to wear costumes at this month's pack meeting with the caveat that the costumes be neither scary nor gory. Laurel will be going dressed as Belle (Simplicity 9902).

I had been kicking around acquiring a long-sleeve peach leotard to paint up so I could pull off Guinevere in battle dress (photo 1, photo 2) from King Arthur but nixed it as being too violent.

Vogon has obliquely suggested I could pull off Aeryn Sun from Farscape, but I don't see the resemblance. Would he take it seriously if I offered to do that for Halloween if he'd dress up as Crichton?

Maybe I should just be a ninja.

In other sewing news, Vogon picked up a little MP3 player last week and would like a holder for it, so I need to either measure it or trace its dimensions onto a piece of paper so I can draft a pattern. I already have clear vinyl and a remnant of opaque vinyl in a subdued shade (I don't want to give him the howling fantods with any of the bright colors I have from making clown props) so it's just a matter of drafting, making a mock-up and then going slow and easy with the sewing machine since it's heavy material.

I won't get to sewing the final product until later this week, after I finish assembling the portable sewing tables Vogon bought this weekend to free the dining table. (You'd have to ask him how long it's been used for sewing, but it's been that way since at least March 2004.) I got most of the way through the first one last night but got distracted watching Farscape and put a piece on upside down, so I'll get it done later tonight and work on the other one later this week.
