God, I really need to 'relearn' how to sew. Next month at our mothers of multiples meeting is kimono night. Since so many multiples are preemies or have medical issues, we do these simple three piece kimonos for babies in NICU. It covers up the wires and ports while allowing the medical staff easy access. Our main thing during that night is cutting tons of pieces of fabric using pinking shears and sewing them together. I know it could go much faster if I used the skills more often.
I also wish I could MAKE shorts or simple shirts for the boys instead of buying them. LAZY! :) Do you ever make Laurel's clothes for her? If so, does she like helping pick out the fabrics?
Shorts are EASY. I can whip those out in 45 minutes, probably less, even. It's just 2 pieces of fabric, you hem the legs, sew the small side together on each pair, put one side inside out and in the other piece, serge (or sew) the inner seam, sew the top edge down (knits don't unravel), stick elastic in, sew it shut. voila. Pants are basically the same, just have longer legs. :-) Shirts, you can just get cheap t-shirts, they take more time to sew.
There aren't many causes that I can really find reason to support... but if you need and don't have a (or enough) serger(s), I'll gladly lend mine to this effort.
And, you'd be amazed at how easy it is to make almost anything for kids with said device... (I wouldn't be offended if you used it for more than just the donated service...).
The cool thing about a serger is that it cuts and sews at the same time.... Just a thought.
Since red_ervish doesn't need them, Maylie is in-between 2t and 3t (I've only been getting 3t for the grow-into factor but she can still fit into 2t barely). I can pay for the shipping. :-) Well the 3t anyway, like I said she's on the verge of outgrowing 2t.
I think I probably say this whenever you mention this type of thing but: pulling alligator tears after being reprimanded for kicking Vogon in the knee, which earned a trip outside to cool down and stop crying before we rejoined our lunchtime company. makes me want to thank you so very, very much. I wish more parents did that kind of thing; usually, it seems (well, "usually" is probably the wrong word, it's just that those are the ones you notice because they're acting poorly) parents will just be all "Oh, be quiet. Be quiet. Meh." in a store/restaurant/whatever and let the kid continue bawling. So, yes, thank you for being an awesome parent who is doing the right thing. For reals.
