On Sunday, I will have been married to Brandon for a WHOLE YEAR. Yes, I'd say we've pretty much weathered all the storms and are in for a smooth ride from here on out. Haha, just kidding, I know we are still marriage newbies! But I have to say, all those naysayers and doomsayers who told us how difficult the first year of marriage was going to be were totally wrong, for us at least. Other than a few adjustments and minor conflicts, few of which were anything more than what you might find with any two people learning to share the same living space, marriage has been a breeze. A delicious, refreshing, wonderful breeze.
To commemorate, a list! (surprising, I know) Actually, two of them.
Five Awesome Things About Marriage
1. Someone awesome is always around to chill out with.
2. Someone takes the trash out for me before it makes the kitchen all stinky.
3. Someone snuggles with me and says nice things when I am feeling sad.
4. Someone comes with me when I do awesome fun things so there is someone else there to agree how awesome and fun they are.
5. [redacted because my parents read this blog]
Five Not-so-awesome Things About Marriage
1. Trying to put someone else's needs before your own all the time is not always very fun.
2. Sometimes there will be big piles of laundry in your room for weeks and weeks and the person who put them there is totally fine with them staying on the floor forever instead of folding and putting them away. (To date, our biggest fight was about this silliness!)
3. I have to talk to someone about boring money stuff way more than I would prefer.
4. I have to be very diplomatic and pretend it is okay that my husband does not like every single thing that I do and that endless compromise about what restaurant to go to or what to cook for dinner this week or what to watch on TV or where to hang out this weekend is not at all annoying.
5. My husband often fails at reading my mind and I have to actually voice my thoughts and feelings in order for him to understand them.
I think the Awesome things definite outweigh the Not-so-awesome ones, and I'm sure Brandon would have plenty of things to put on his Not-so-awesome list about me that would balance them out even more!
