Supernatural 3.09 In which I am dazed and confused

Feb 04, 2008 16:23

So I've gotten a little carried away here.  This episode, not only comes after an unreasonably long break, but it contains elements that have my brain doing back flips, so to speak.  Sorry folks I don't have much in the way of answers for you, just ten billion more questions.

Not to mention the seriously lame soundtrack. . . no, I'm not going to get started aside from saying I love Screamin'Jay Hawkins but in context? Oh, get out a mallet and hit me over the head, why don't you?

You know, the name of the hotel takes on a whole new meaning when you read the lyrics to "Conquistador" by Proco Harum

Conquistador your stallion stands
In need of company
And like some angels haloed brow
You reek of purity
I see your armour-plated breast
Has long since lost its sheen
And in your death mask face
There are no signs which can be seen

And though I hoped for something to find
I could see no maze to unwind

Conquistador a vulture sits
Upon your silver shield
And in your rusty scabbard now
The sand has taken seed
And though your jewel-encrusted blade
Has not been plundered still
The sea has washed across your face
And taken of its fill

And though I hoped for something to find
I could see no maze to unwind

Conquistador there is no time
I must pay my respect
And though I came to jeer at you
I leave now with regret
And as the gloom begins to fall
I see there is no, only all
And though you came with sword held high
You did not conquer, only die

And though I hoped for something to find
I could see no maze to unwind

Damn shame they couldn't have been playing this at the end of the episode!

Yeah, that really was a huge miss. Mainly because it just didn't fit the tone of the piece as a whole. Way to blatant. Luckily, this show's usual 'soundtrack' really isn't my thing, so it's always a bonus when I like the music and I don't miss is when it's absent.

I'm so glad you shared the lyrics. Wow, that would have been killer at the end of the episode. You're right! That's all about Dean isn't it? Damn.

I think they're really going to let him go to hell.

I know I'm going to be tarred and feathered - but Kripke has to let him if he's staying true to the Hero's Journey. In most Hero myths there is a journey to the Underworld.

Me? I'd have had the radio at the beginning of the maggot scene playing Santana "Evil Ways": "You've been lyin' and hidin'and foolin' around. You got me runnin' and lookin' all over town this can't go on. . ." and then segue into Cliff Richard "Devil Woman": "Black cat with evil eyes - ya better get outa there fast! She's just a Devil Woman with evil on her mind, Beware the Devil Woman she's gonna getcha! She's just a Devil Woman with evil on her mind, Beware the Devil Woman she's gonna getch from behi-i-i-ind!"

Maybe just as blatant, but I like the songs better. :)
