Come, take an amble with me, through the highlights of the episode. (At least from my pov.)
I loved this episode. It had me in my happy place again where I feel the love of my show. The big win was having the brothers Winchester back in fine fettle and being themselves. Plus I enjoyed just how subtle the writing was, very funny but not over the top a la Tall Tales. Very skillful. In fact everything was on song.
I've not been a big fan of Gordon in the past but I think he works really well in this context. Most of my issues with the character I put down to the scriptwriters. I don't think they have served him well in some of the choices they've made. (The whole end game of Bloodlust with him tied to a chair drove me nuts.)
Sam and Dean argueing in the metalicar was wonderful. Finally, they're behaving like themselves again.
Dean: She knows what your weakness is, it's me. Says it all!
Sam's whole attitude to Ruby is interesting and I think will cause them problems in the future. Sam talks a good game but as Dean has said his brother is not a killer and I think he hasn't got the cahones to do what needs to be done to make working with a demon possessed human play out in a win for the Winchesters.
I love that Dean has kept his dad's mobile charged and within reach. John's sons continue to learn more about their father's life now that he's dead which is rather a sad commentary on just how little he shared with them. John keeping Sam's soccer trophy and Dean's first sawn off shows just how much he loved them. Hopefully they will take this to heart.
Kubrick: Don't play with my Jesus. Bwhahahahhaha
I won't mention what I thought of every time I saw the cursed rabbit's foot. It was just so ... oh man I can't even say.
The whole kitchen scene freaked me out with the implement of impalement which you knew would be impaling the bad guy any moment. *shudder* Are they going to have one of these quiver-behind-the-sofa scenes every episode?
When Sam learns the nature of the curse and he pockets the foot, you just know he's going to lose it.
I'm so sad about Sam's hot chick moment. It looks like he's being hit on, and he's rather enjoying it and obviously Dean is impressed, but it's not real. She's there to steal the rabbit's foot and Sam's distracted by her proximity. Poor Sam.
And then the pain begins. Poor, poor, Sam. Sam's prat falls make me so full of glee. Does that make me a bad person?
Sam: I lost my shoe. Oh baby. *hugs Sam tight to bosom of doom*
Dean: Don't even scratch your nose. So of course Sam does. *snicker* Then the room goes into destructo!Sam mode which leads to him being captured by the hunters.
Love the Dean/Bela standoff. There's some serious chemistry there. *prays for well written use by show* I love that she keeps using pet names for Dean. Sweetie. Honey. Tiger.
Dean: I'm Batman.
Sam: Yeah, you're Batman. Bwhahahahahah
Gordon: Sam Winchester must die. This season's theme perhaps? A reason for Dean to want to save himself?
