A few thoughts. Not as extensive as usual but then I'm flying a lot more by the seat of my pants this side of the pond. You're probably high fiving your best mate right now, aren't you? *sheesh*
Quick season recap.
Season one: Sam travels the highways and byways of the USA bonding with his macho on the outside, inadequate on the inside, older brother, in a smokin' hot muscle car, hanging on to his big ball of angst.
Season two: As they travel the highways and byways of the USA in a smokin' hot muscle car, Sam passes the big ball of angst on to his macho on the outside, inadequate on the inside, dead things should stay dead, older brother, whilst taking one for the team, coming to a sticky end, but then, miracle of miracles, it's Resurrection II.
Season three looks like it's going to be: Sam snatches back that big ol' ball of angst from his macho on the outside, inadequate on the inside, dead things should stay dead but not if they are my younger brother Sammy, older brother, as they travel the highways and byways of the USA in a smokin' hot muscle car while they try and send the Yellow Eyed Demon's demonic hoard back to hell.
3.01 The Magnificent Seven
So my first thought on seeing the episode title was: yee har cowboys, the wild west, showdowns at high noon with guns ablazin'. Duh! Where's Steve McQueen when you need him?
Not sure I like the new titles. I'd been hoping for a green hue, of some description, myself. May be they'll grow on me? Right now they're a little bit too much 70s album cover.
What I loved in this episode:
Sam walking in on Dean doing ... insert sex act with two women that would freak Sam out here *lol*
Sam's expression when he and Dean are in the car headed for Lincoln and Dean is waaaaaay to chipper. *meep* God, Sam just looks so lost. *wibble*
Finding the family who has died of sloth in front of the tv as Lucy from Dallas loses it screaming "...I hate this family." Bwahahahahahah!
Bobby going ballistic, and getting all medieval on Tamara's arse, laying down the law.
Envy painting a very unpleasant picture of human nature and its animalistic ways. *Fixes Dean with a steely glare*
The look Sam and Dean exchange as they prepare to face the six remaining sins.
Bobby as bait. Oh hell, basically anything Bobby does throughout the entire episode.
Sam being choked by Pride.
The final scene. *Holy meep* It's all laid out. There's no escaping his fate for Dean and he's comfortable with that. Silly, silly boy. Where John was worn out and ready to lay down his burden, Dean sees himself as having completed his job and is ready for his reward. *hugs Sam 'cos he has an arsehole for a brother*
Scariest moment: Bobby in a suit. He looked so ... normal. G-man, eh?
Grossest moment: drinking the Drano. Couldn't watch it it freaked me out so much. What is it about Kripke and drains?
Things to ponder:
Dean's way to open and jokey about his fate and I find that quite unnerving. No one is that sanguine. Plus the way he's manipulating Sam working the whole guilt trip angle so he can bang as many warm bodies as he wants, makes me want to channel Bobby big time. Yes, Dean can be an arsehole but ... this is superior arseholeness. *Freaking out now.* Expect major brother vs brother throw down in the not too distant future.
YED was clearly talking his boy up down there in the bowels of hell. The Prodigy? The Boy King? *snicker* There's gonna be a lot of pissed off demons gunning for Sam. This does not auger well for the future. Also, I suspect YED's "How certain, are you, what you brought back is 100%, pure, Sam?" is gonna come back and bite Dean in the arse.
We meet a sultry blonde chick emerging from the shadows. No name yet. Why don't we call her Jo Mark II given the more than passing resemblance to Bill and Ellen's kid? And what's with all the hair product? Do they have a Hunters R Us Hairstylist on hand? I did notice that one of the sins recognised her. Makes you wanna go, hmmmm?
