9 mile canyon vacation

This last weekend my family and I went on a camping trip to 9-mile canyon. This name is a misnomer because it is not 9-miles, but rather a 46-miles long canyon which is often referred to as 'the world's longest art gallery'. This canyon is filled with archaic Fremont and Ute rock art, historical ranches, and structures. Petroglyphs are literally everywhere, often seen by the road or where anyone could walk to.

Most of the glyphs depicted big hunts, or especially good catches (e.g. "big buffalo" as well as "fat elk") but others are left to be interpreted. The "octopus" glyph on the bottom is said to be a Fremont goddess who taught their ancestors how to weave (much like the Greek myth of goddess Athena who punished the impious pretensions of her acolyte Arachne by turning her into a weaving spider). The Fremont petroglyph is even depicted here near a "spider web" glyph. It was a short trip, but still especially fun trip too.
