part four.
it switches POV at the end but it shouldn't be hard to notice where.

Getting Sam to agree to a mission to M4X-553 had been easier than John had planned on, it's address was listed in one of the secondary lists of planets that exploratory missions were planned for. The MALP sent through had revealed only a quiet and apparently unoccupied planet. A curious looking grouping of stones was visible a few miles south across the flat plains, and while the temperatures were cold- apparently it was winter- they weren't nearly bad enough to warrant concern. Soft white clouds cast mottled shadows to the ground between sunbeams; in some ways it was quite reminiscient of sunny winter days on earth. They'd received the go ahead as soon as it was verified that the planet posed no risk and John and his team were ready to go shortly thereafter.

Ronon and Teyla stood in the back of the jumper, checking stowing supplies while Rodney ran another simulation on his tablet computer and John double checked the jumper.
"Now if my calculations are correct- which obviously, they are- then based off the information Bethea gave me about cell frequencies, a single blast from the ARG I've modified will allow Elizabeth's nanites to convert and build organic cells. The new safeguards I've implemented mean they'll be able to work around all vital systems as they repair her cells without doing damage to her brain. Of course that's provided her replicator cells haven't completely taken over yet. They'll need a basic cell blueprint to work from and there's always the possibility that her memories and personality have already been overwritten by--"

"Rodney! Geez, are you always this optimistic?"
John was already sufficiently nervous, without Rodney pointing out the fears he'd silently harbored for months. What if it was already too late for Elizabeth, what then?

"I'm just trying to make sure you understand all the ways this could go catastrophically bad before-"

Teyla broke in before Rodney got any further, stopping him mid-sentence as she took her seat.
"Rodney, I am quite sure that we all have considered these possibilities before. But no matter how frightening they are, we must remain positive until we have reason to do otherwise."

"Well I think it's only reasonable to make sure that you know what you're getting into."

John shrugged, hoping he looked less shaken up than he felt at hearing voiced what he'd been worrying about for so long.
"I get it, she could be gone. Are we ready to go now?"

Ronon sat down across from him, glancing at him for a second before shifting his attention to the mission.
"Let's go get her."

John nodded back, silently starting up the jumper and exiting the bay. From the control room, a group of gate technicians and support staff watched, and Colonel Carter's voice came through the radio as they paused in front of the active wormhole.
"Alright John, do what you have to do and bring her back. Check in every six hours and sooner if you find something."

"Understood, we'll stay in touch."

None of them looked back as the jumper went through the stargate.

Elizabeth woke up surrounded by a brightness that she noticed even with her eyes closed; when she did open them, the room was completely empty, devoid of anything at all. She couldn't even see the walls. And everything was white, without even a shadow, just the bright light that made it hard for her to tell which way was up for a few confusing seconds. Elizabeth heard a voice from behind her just as she gained her equilibrium.

"Welcome to the choosing point."
