These Days

I seem to have lost my will to blog lately. Getting adjusted to my new schedule and watching practically no television has made me rather insulated. I'll get back to a more normal routine, but for now, this seems to work. Let's hit the high spots:
  • The house is really coming together. The rug for my library should be here any day, and that will make it almost complete--still need a comfortable reading chair or chaise, but I'll have to save up for that. There are still lots of boxes to unpack, but none of it seems as necessary as it did when I put it into boxes, so I hope to be able to get rid of a lot more stuff soon.
  • Workouts are going amazingly well. I'm not getting my ass kicked so much (though my trainer still rolls her eyes a lot; fortunately, I'm able to laugh at myself). I'm starting to see muscle definition in places I never had it before. Whole layers of my body have melted away--the subcutaneous fat is just gone in many spots. It's been really worthwhile to have a trainer; she emphasizes form and balance, and pushes me when I think I've reached my limits. I'm not where I want to be yet, but I'm in the best shape I've been in in years.
  • I'm reading a really absorbing novel which also happens to be a bestseller. (It's rare for me to read either fiction or bestsellers, so this is an Event.) It's called The Historian, and is a sort of scholarly Dracula novel. (The characters are scholars, I mean; it's not written in an academic manner.) What fiction I do read tends to be historical, and I've always loved vampire fiction especially--I have a whole collection of it. If you do, I recommend the book.
  • Last weekend, enkigrl, duncang, and Mickie came over to eat and watch movies. Graham made salmon and asparagus--yum! Then we watched Libeled Lady, one of my favorite 1930s screwball comedies. I have all of the classics, but I rarely share them--for fear of ridicule, maybe. It would really upset me if people laughed at what they perceived to be their camp value. But everyone loved it! They got it, and laughed in all the right places. That made me really happy.
  • Work is going well; I'm caught up on DeSoto at the moment (though a little worried about what will happen when the new director (still to be named) comes in next month. Our program is very cutting-edge, and if the new person doesn't think that way, I could be toast, which would be bad. My stint as adjunct professor of cataloging at UNT starts soon, too--it's a little intimidating, but I'm really looking forward to it. The project for Greenville is going well--I'll be going up there next week, and should be almost finished with the initial phase by the time I leave. And there's a possibility of a consulting job with a corporate library in Hong Kong that may come through. So I'm keeping busy.
And now, it's time for me to head for the gym. Looks like it's about to pour outside, so I'll try to beat the rain there. Later, gators!
