Can you believe Spike Jonze really talks like that? I watched the movie twice before I wrote the fic, once with commentary, and I watched the accompanying documentary, and I was surprised. I don't remember him talking like that on MTV. Was he just talking like that to stay in character?

Anyway, like all things Spike, it's just another idiosyncrasy with which to fall in love. It definitely endears the Conrad character to me. And you are so right about Wahlberg's "soft earnest voice." Damn, Lori, you really know how to pick out all the juicy pieces that all together add up to big gay slash.

That would be a compliment.

As for the morbidity, it may have been a cop out or time constraint, but I think I mostly killed Conrad off because he dies in the movie (though earlier). In the commentary, the director talked about it as if Conrad was The Fourth Character Who Must Die, which pissed me off some cause I thought it was cliche and unnecessary for a movie that studiously avoided most of the cliche and unnecessary of war films.

But I am definitely talking too much. I miss seeing you drunk.

Spike Jonze is a strange puppy. I'll never forget that "Praise You" video for Fatboy Slim. And the fact that when they won an award, he actually went up on stage as that dance dude. I love him. He's like a Seth Green. Strange and tiny.

I think what gets me the most about this is that you, like, actually make it seem viable. Like, Three Kings was always a slashy movie to me, but I could never see them in the NC-17 range. Especially Conrad. Of course, trust you to break that mindset. Bless.

Ahaha. I was thinking of doing a comic character modeled loosely on Seth Green. Maybe I should create their love child. There aren't many tiny cool boys out there. Sometimes it's hard to create interesting characters when all you have in your head is some vague idea of "badass!"

...But, truth is stranger more interesting than fiction?

Funny how you said you didn't see it in the NC-17 range, cause I didn't either, and I don't really think I succeeded. I don't think it's at all convincing that Troy would make the move, especially since I wrote it right after watching the commentary wherein Russel emphasized that the central point of Troy's character is that he's a loyal family man. Like, put a wrench in my slashin' plans why don'tcha?!

But if I was gonna go to all that effort to actually put out finished product, it was gonna have some fucking smut goddammit.
