So Full, but Running on Empty

I am LOVING Dexter.

It... (and I'm thinking about how to say this exactly and just going with the thought process here cause I don't think I'm going to be able to describe it neatly) ...reminds me of a favorite bar of mine in the city proper. It's perhaps too well-liked* and has a few enduring imperfections, but I cannot get enough of it. Not only will I totally put up with those imperfections, but I will tell everyone who might listen that I LOVE it. Absolutely. Always fits perfect and sates complete.

We have also started on Rome. I watched the first few episodes back when it first aired, but it didn't keep me committed to its air schedule and I fell out of sync. Heard it improved with Season 2 and since I didn't mind what I saw originally I'm on board for real this time. I love the costumes and colors, of course, but so far (and I realize this is what they were going for) none of the characters are really likeable. That's pretty much what I'm around for with the talkies, so hopefully I'll soon be won over by the complex humanity so subtly and delicately balanced within each of these winning personalities, etc. If it doesn't, fine, though. Totally fine. I love watching my favorite histories pumped so full of expensive life. Mmmm money-saturated historical film (TV, whatever) with a bunch of British character actors doused in blood and sex and the odd preserved phallus? Yes, please.

That said, there's a problem with this programming. Ironically, the Romans and a twisted Dexter with sex issues aren't satisfying my special place: uh, where's the slash? It's Dexter/Rita 4eva and don't get me started on hygiene at the turn of the millenium. What to do, guys, what to do?

*Popularity does not turn me off either bars or tv shows. With bars, it's got the plus of offering more people with whom to mingle and with tv shows, well, hello fandom. But of course with the bar, I'd like to be able to get my drink and seat within 5 minutes of squeezing past the door, and with Dexter, I feel perhaps it could do with some concrit. ^_^;; Just a little. (Secret: We don't like Deb. The Perky Female [Non-Romantic Interest] Character is always a hard sell at this house.)
