This is very intriguing! I am fascinated by the WWI and WWII eras too, and I always enjoy premises similar to the one you've decided to write.
I definitely get that sense of the vintage style of writing in this piece, which is totally appropriate and fits perfectly. And poor Evie. Gah. It's heartbreaking that she's lost both her husband and her brother. There were so many like her in the wars in that respect.
The suspense of the search for the missing person is extended perfectly. The part where she fancies it's her brother calling is heartbreaking.
Oh thank you so much! For some reason I was super nervous about posting this, since it is only a small slice of a larger, growing piece. I'm glad you liked it and the emotions exuded well enough!
So I'm sitting in my bed right now, and I definitely unconsciously pulled the blankets much closer to me as I was reading this. Because the covers were around my lap, and once I finished I had pulled them up to my shoulders, haha. Great job describing the absolute bitter cold! I guess it made me cold too.
I'm very curious to see how this will play out. The soldier is obviously very injured... and very frostbitten! Hopefully that's something hot broth and folklore can heal!

Definitely looking forward to more of this!
