The opening night of Floorshow was a masked masquerade ball. I went for an outfit of shirt, bow tie and loud waistcoat (and trousers of course).
The venue was The Minories, and I expected it to be the same location as Invocation. I put the mask on just as I was approaching the door, then whipped it off again upon looking inside and seeing folks watching the football. The barmaid cued me in that The Minories is also the name of the street that Minories is on, and pointed me to the right venue.
Once inside, it was a charming venue and the masks added to the style of evening. Most people I knew were easily recognisable, but that made the talking easier rather than harder. The lack of peripheral vision did cause several bumps, but all well understood as part of the masks.
It was all the usual friendliness and many friends. I do need to practise my smalltalk though - later in the night I was lost for words when smalltalk could have made new friends.
The music was a pleasing mix with plenty to dance to. The volume was far lower than a normal club, which worked very well. The dancefloor was filling, conversions could still be heard, and while I had earplugs with me (see the previous post), I didn't need to use them.
I left shortly after midnight to get the last train home, not feeling up to a Slimelight all-nighter.
Random bits
And One's song about military uniforms causing a dancefloor full of corset-and-ballgown goths.
