Goodbye Iraq

Jan 28, 2006 22:36

We have finnaly left Iraq.It took about two days at the air base to actualy leave, varying from mechanical failures to missing rosters. We just touched down here in Kawait, already the air and overall tone is different.Near the end of our operation time we ran into a hour long firefight,My partner was shot in his side armor and one of my men was shot in the hand. The fucking basterds were doing drive-bys every few minutes or so.We caught them geting ready for another go and unloaded on them.Never in my life to this point was I so satisfied about laying waste to another human being. In the end everyone came out alright, two of there own dead and three captured. What really suprised me the most really was the fact that I wasnt afrade,I just wanted some sort of revenge for my partner and my marine. That was the last real excitement of our deployment really, over the course of seven months Ive baked in the sun, freezed in the cold and rain, been shot at several times,Nearly blown up a handful more and found in awe of the few friendly Iraqis that I have met in my time over there. All the awards were given out,NAMs,purple hearts and combat advancements.I saw none of it.My LT never really liked me from the get go so when it was time to be reconised I wasnt. All the same really,Its a thankless job alot of the time as a corpsmen and I know that my men apriciate what Ive done.Overall I would say this has been a good deployment, and knowing how things are going it wont be my last.I suspect at least being here or deployed to some other combat zone two more times before I can even think of re-enlisting or geting out.To all my friends ,thankyou for writing and sending care packages. You made my day everytime I saw your names, always rereading what you had to say.To my Family,I love you and Ill be home soon.
