3x11 liveblog:
- Did he got back the sword? I haven't noticed.
- There's tons of non-con fic that can come from that scene: whip, check; tongue, check; thankful!Merlin, check...
- Morgana is flirting with Uther (yes, I know he's her father) and Uther is too proud
- Hahaha, Merlin's worried, as usual :D
- Uther is competing! This gets interesting
- Hai, Indiana Jones guy
- Gaius: "I can't believe it!"
- Merlin is suspicious
- Well, Merlin you use magic in front of a lot of people too, don't feel bad
- I love that they transform Arthur's room into anything :P
- Uther: This is sorcery! Gaius: Sire, maybe... Uther: Nope, I'm Giles, I know everything about sorcery
- Gaius is going to help a sorcerer? *is surprised*
- Wasn't there a fic where Merlin competes in an open tournament using magic?
- Homever made the matches should have placed the king and prince to fight in the final!
- So what if Uther dies?
- I love Gilli, he reminds me a bit of Will. He told so many truths.
- The dragon, why does Merlin keep summoning him? WHY?
- I'm so glad Gilli didn't die!
No bad guys in this episode, so no tournament here.
and
3x12 stuff:
I really don't know what to think of this episode, I think I'll rewatch it to make up my mind. On the one hand I enjoyed it overall, on the other hand I had several issues with it.
Sir Leon is alive!! <-- That's really good :D (of course, someone else would have died if he'd beeen saved by magic, unless it was Arthur or Morgana)
I'm going to miss Cendred and his hot leather attire :(
I liked that we probably saw the best Merlin/Arthur interaction of the whole series 3, which I liked, but then I surprised myself dismissing the Arthur/Merlin in favour of Merlin/Gwaine, and I have to say that was weird. I haven't been reading fanfic lately (I'm with the
Liveships) so I don't know where that came from. The canon, I guess. At some point of the episode I was hoping Gwaine would learn about Merlin's magic instead of Arthur (I even thought he already knew at the go-to-get-firewood scene), which is kind of sad :(
Also, Arthur threatening the kid didn't help matters (yes, maybe it is my maternal side talking, but I didn't want that guy to be king). I was thinking, first he kills a whole village full of druids (including women and children) and now he roughens up the kid (yes, I know he wasn't hurt but I'm not surprised the druids would believe him capable of anything).
The episode had several references to several Lancelot's episodes (including the same burning village! the entry to the rats cave!) to Indiana Jones (maybe it was just me?), to LotR and to 3x01 and 3x02 (and even some stuff reminded me of fics :P). I don't know how I feel about that.
I loved the continuity about Nimueh's cup (except they forgot the part about the balance?)
It's a pity the slave traders were wasted like that! So much fic-potential! Instead they just were the Cendred's Kingdom UFC. :(
What's going to be called Cendred's Kingdom now? Morgause's Queen-dom? (yes, bad joke)
The Morgana/Gwen scene was a bit weird because, why was Morgana suddenly worried about Gwen's well-being? and more important, why did she reveal herself as the traitor before her army had conquered the city?
And talking about Morgana: YES! (I guess there would be no reveal, but this is the thing the producers said couldn't be undone).
What I also noticed was that the writers place Merlin in the (traditional) role of "the girl": Gwaine and Arthur fighting over him, being the "powerless" one on the fight, being the one who can't keep a secret... I saw more but I have to rewatch the episode. I think they want to place Merlin as "the girl" to make us see the slash there (meaning Arthur and Gwaine could have a relationship with him). For a long time I suspected it wasn't completely intentional, but this episode has vanished all my doubts and the means they use are not even imaginative.
In the good vs bad tournament, the bad guys win thanks to Morgana/Morgause and Dom!Morgause with Cendred, not even Gawine managed to beat that. So 6-4 lead the good guys (that have already won, by the way)
