A dream:

Part of this was that I wandered around cities with Imo and a friend of hers - Toronto, New York maybe. I think there was a lot of going back and forth, but it starts to bleed into other dreams. I've been wandering cities a lot lately. I've actually had a lot of really weird dreams lately (comes of sleeping on a couch?) but I haven't remembered enough of them long enough to get a computer and write them down. This one's pretty special.

The second part is in a house. There's a party in... a planetarium of sorts only it looks more like the kind of conference hall you'd try and dress up for a wedding. There's three of my friends from public school . We'll call them M, C and L (very Roman numeral, I know). In life, as far as I know they are now a doctor, a nurse and a flight attendant respectively. We're all in these beautiful silk 20s dresses, maybe some feathers, pearls. There's some men around in tuxes, but I don't recognize them. The gossip is that M looks gorgeous and has clearly married money. C looks as though she has done all right for herself as well. (Oh, E is there, too, but there's no gossip about her. I don't actually know what she's doing in real life, either.) Poor L has been unluckily cast as the hapless one. She's done herself up in raccoon eyed makeup and looks upset. I greet her and tell her she looks great (true, except the crazy makeup - like the bad Jenny makeup on Gossip Girl, only less professional) and she tells me that people have been telling her how much they hate her eyes all night. I say "fuck 'em" and she beams. So then there is a planetarium kind of thing in 3-d where the ceiling kind of comes down and hits you, or well, me mostly because I'm not in a seat. It's only a little piece, made up to look like moon rock or something, and it keeps rising up and down, hitting me on the head each time. Laughter ensues.

There's some to-do about watches and a bracelet that seem to keep coming off and L doesn't have a purse, so I offer to hold on to them, or we drop them in a corner of the room, or there's something about a silk bag. So. The watch is very modern. Pale, cheap metal, kind of blue. Doesn't fit style-wise with her dress, but that's kind of an afterthought. It seemed to be alright in the dream.

People disperse after the show and wander. The planetarium is actually in a big old Victorian home with... things everywhere. Well taken care of with gleaming wood all over, but clearly very lived in, and there are people wandering everywhere. Maybe some cats. Lots of books, toys, maps, lamps, cigarette trays. I don't know. Many many things.

One of the people is actually an alien. So there's that. She has an upside-down triangle in front of her face that glows and another one replicates and slides down in front of it where it glows green. It moves eerily while she speaks. She... stands in front of a window (there's a desk lamp on an end table under it) and tells the man she's paired off with that she's an alien. She smiles and her teeth are not actually teeth, they're a corporate logo in typography. Smart corps, or something like that. I remember the second word started with a C.

There's a weird moment of heightened awareness, like when the clock strikes twelve, and all the paired off people turn in for a kiss. Only when they do, they all have matching mustaches/smiles. It's illustrated and stylized, like they only have one mouth between them. The alien and the man she's paired with both have upside down triangle mustaches, and big creepy grins (only hers is the only one with the corporate logo, still). It montages through the other couples matching smiles and mustaches.

Meantime, I am now a man, I am pretty sure. There's something about the house and the family history. There's a man in a study, studiously drawing something, or writing or taking notes. He looks up after I come in and acknowledges me quickly. In my head I think "and promptly friends me back on facebook". I've been trying to get in touch with him to ask about the house, I think. He's a scholar who's devoted his life to the subject. He has a black suit jacket on, pin stripe pants, a vest, a gold pocket watch and round, gold rimmed glasses. Basically looks like Santa. He wants me to tell him something, but by some sort of creative means? I think? And so begins the awkward sort of conversation where someone wants something creative from you that you don't believe you can do, or that you don't believe will help in any way. It mostly ends in him tearing his hair, yelling, and me drawing, filled with skepticism and doubt.

Another day, maybe the next, there's a picnic on a crowded plot of land somewhere. Crowded with people. Someone in my party tells me to grab the drinks, which are plastic sealed into a cardboard tray, all random kinds like some sort of gift-basket, only more like a gift crate. I sort of pick at it until the same person laughs at me to grab the wine coolers. They're in bottles with fruit etched into the glass. I pull a couple of them out and the person laughs again and says, "just one." Looking back on that one, that seems moderate in the extreme, but who am I to judge.

The thing with the house continues.. there's a script? At the picnic, and it's to-do with the grandfather and the father. I think the grandfather was haunting the place or something like that, and what he wanted done with it was important. But obviously so important, I can't remember what it was anymore.

Actually, I remember the "important thing" was what the house was about.

And then I woke up.

Very cool though, aesthetically speaking as well. It was like having some sort of Clue game or a puzzle book. I never really got to the end with those things, either.
