I hate you a little, sometimes, maybe.

So I think, at the end of the year, I will mark down 'Arizona series, game 2' as when I gave up on the 2012 Oakland A's.

And I'm truly truly annoyed by this. Because the worst thing about the 2012 A's? THEY'RE NOT THAT HORRIBLE.

They were supposed to be horrible. Completely and utterly horrible. It was supposed to be Cespedes, McCarthy, and Some Other Guys and then they had to go fuck it up by starting off the season WELL.

They were in CONTENTION. And got our hopes up. And looked like they could be a quirky underdog for the second wildcard, if nothing else, since they were in second-fucking-place, which was a miracle.

Then the 9 game losing streak hit and for some reason, that didn't kill me. Even when it launched us into the basement, I was like, "Okay, it's fine. Sure, these are bottom-dweller teams, but we've spent the last five years doing well against good teams and choking against the last-place guys. It's okay." And then we beat the shit out of the Rangers and it was awesome.

But Arizona. ARIZONA. There was somewhere in the realm of zero reason that we shouldn't have taken 2-of-3. We started out with a laughter 2nd inning, and then... it was really all downhill from there. This sweep kills me more than the 9-game losing streak did.

So yeah. Here's my eulogy for the 2012 A's: "They were terrible, but not terrible enough. They were decent, but not decent enough. That null void of space is the worst place to be."

I'll spend the rest of the season in the bleachers, being cheerfully drunk and heckling opposing outfielders and no longer expecting a damn thing from this team. Which is what I wanted all along, I guess.
