The Offseason.

"It breaks your heart.  It is designed to break your heart.  The game begins in spring, when everything else begins again, and it blossoms in the summer, filling the afternoons and evenings, and then as soon as the chill rains come, it stops and leaves you to face the fall alone."  ~A. Bartlett Giamatti

Soooo the first volley of offseason depression has hit. While it's not technically a big thing that the A's didn't make an offer to any of their FAs while they had exclusive rights, it's becoming very Real that Willingham AKA the Willinghammer AKA Pig is out the door and leaving us to face the cold season of 2012 alone.

I still haven't paid for my 2012 season tickets, and it's getting harder and harder. I need to make sure to include a message -- I AM A SEASON TICKET HOLDER BECAUSE I SUPPORT MY BOYS IN OAKLAND, IN OAKLAND NOW AND FOREVER, FUCK YOU SAN JOSE.

Because I do believe we're gonna get approval for the move this offseason, and I do believe my heart's going to break the day that happens. These season tickets won't be happening after they move, it's not possible, not til I someday retire to Santa Cruz when I'm old and grey and have shit all to do but watch my favorite game anyway.

And if these motherfuckers are just going to rebuild until the new stadium, not even give us one last gasping run for glory in Oakland... well. I have some fucking feelings about that. Certainly. 'Ownership can bite me' pretty much sums it up.

The only thing more agonizing than the baseball season itself is the offseason. I keep revisiting some of the slash from the early 00s and thinking, god, those were some teams, those were some players. When I invent time travel, I'm going to relive it over and over and over again.
