Spoony awoke with a startled jolt when he heard the unmistakable cackle of his doppelganger. Insano was still recovering from a fever he’d acquired after several days of working without rest, even though he persisted in claiming that he was not sick in the slightest. Nope, not even when he found himself only able to stomach soup and orange juice would the doctor admit he was ill.
Just the previous night Spoony had caught Insano trying to slip down into his lab and return to working on his inventions. Spoony then had to physically carry Insano back into his room before he sat down in a chair near his bed, refusing to leave until Insano was sleeping peacefully.
This had quickly turned into a battle of wills, since Spoony was rather tired himself by that point, and once Insano realized this, he’d forced himself to stay awake in the hopes of slipping out after Spoony nodded off. Spoony, who hated losing, had then moved to sitting on the side of Insano’s bed, so that even if he did fall asleep first, Insano’s attempts to get up would have to rouse him.
This idea worked until both men found themselves too tired to resist, and both fell asleep at the same time, neither waking until Spoony did that morning. He found himself now lying on Insano’s bed, pressed tightly against Insano’s chest, with the doctor’s arms wrapped snuggly around his body.
“What the hell?” Spoony murmured as he thought about how he’d gotten into this situation, and how it wasn’t an entirely uncomfortable position to be in. There was another cackle of laughter that made Spoony turn his head enough to notice Insano was still slumbering. Apparently, he also talked in his sleep.
“You may all line up to worship me,” Insano murmured, his grip on Spoony tightening.
“This is just great,” Spoony sighed, but he couldn’t help snuggling up closer to Insano as he complained. He could tell Insano’s fever was finally gone and he hated to admit it, but he was very comfortable at the moment, so why disturb a good thing for no reason?
“Yes, I am amazing,” Insano muttered again, causing Spoony to bite down on his lip to muffle his laughter.
“Good to see you’re feeling better,” he said before closing his eyes once more.
