Does It Hurt The Friendship?

“Wow, this is a nice pad you’ve got here,” Dan says as he peers around the large house, impressed.

“Well, it’s like, actually Linkara’s place, but he’s totally cool with me crashing here,” 90s Kid explains.

“That’s very rad of him,” 80s Dan replies with a grin. “So, is it just the two of us tonight?”

“Uh huh!”

90s Kid offers to give his guest a tour of the residence and Dan obliges, making appropriately impressed sounds when he is shown the many weapons and magical gadgets Linkara keeps in working order for whenever a battle arises.

“Ever held one of these before, dude?” Dan’s eyes widen as 90s Kid points an arm cannon directly at his head.

“I can honestly say I have not.”

“Try it on, you’ll totally love it.” Before he can protest, Dan finds 90s Kid standing mere inches behind him as he helps slide the weapon onto his arm. He can’t help but notice how the younger man smells of orange soda and sweat, or how the kid’s breath on the back of his neck causes goosebumps to dance across his skin.

“It’s heavier than I thought,” Dan admits when 90s Kid lets go and his arm sags slightly under the weight.

“Dude, I gotcha.” 90s Kid presses his hand against the underside of Dan’s arm and helps him lift the cannon. Even through his canvas jacket, Dan can feel the kid’s warmth seep through to his skin. He starts to breathe more heavily but pulls away before 90s Kid can notice.

He doesn’t want to lose one of the only friends he’s made since being frozen in time for so long.

“Dude, you up for some gaming?” 90s Kid, attention span short as always, is already heading towards the room that’s been designated his by Linkara. Dan stows the cannon back where it belongs and hurries after.

“You know it! I am totally in the mood for kicking your butt tonight.”

They sit side-by-side on the floor, controllers clutched tightly in their hands, and engage in a pixilated battle for ultimate supremacy. Dan doesn’t do very well that night. Something about the younger man’s constant grunting and bumping against him causes his concentration to waver. Inevitably, his fighter falls into a pool of his own blood and 90s Kid is proclaimed the winner.

“Duuuuuude! I totally beat you!” Dan watches as 90s Kid pulls off his sunglasses to wipe the sweat from his eyes, which happen to be the loveliest shade of blue he has ever seen. Dan’s almost bewitched by their gaze until 90s Kid peers at him in confusion

“Dude? You okay?”

“Like the ocean,” Dan murmurs before being snapped back to reality. “What? Uh, yeah, I’m fine. No, I’m not fine, I’m awesome, because I’ve just come up with the most radical strategy for destroying you in our next round.”

If he smiles enough and speaks quickly, maybe 90s Kid won’t notice how flushed he seems or how his fingers keep tapping nervously atop his legs. When the kid continues to gaze sharply at him, Dan can feel his cheeks burn even redder. He coughs and looks away, trying to think up a way to change topics without arousing suspicion. He fails.

“Boy, it’s getting hot out lately, huh?” Dan meekly asks the rug.

Instead of answering, 90s Kid catches Dan’s face with his fingertips and turns it toward him before he leans in close, pressing their mouths together. Out of surprise alone does Dan pull back and gape at the younger man.

“Sorry,” 90s Kid says quickly as his expression grows mortified. “I, uh, just thought you liked me, dude.”

“I do,” Dan replies, just as quickly. “I just didn’t realize you liked me.”

“Oh. Well, I do.” Relief and enthusiasm spreading across his features, 90s Kid pulls Dan back in for a longer kiss. This time the older man gives in to the sensation, letting his eyes close as 90s Kid literally takes his breath away.

“Wow,” Dan whispers when they pull apart at last. Experienced as he was, he’d never been kissed like that before. Lingering on this discovery, he fails to notice how that one word causes 90s Kid to beam.

“I know, right? This is awesome!” 90s Kid moves closer for another kiss, this time allowing his hands to join in on the fun. He helps Dan remove his jacket before running his fingers up and down the older man’s chest and arms, enjoying the pleasant moans this causes Dan to make. When 90s Kid tries to move under Dan’s shirt, though, his hands are caught and he looks up, unsure.

“I’m sorry, dude, is this too fast?”

“I-I don’t know.” Dan is blushing even more now and he hates how he’s still like that awkward teenager he’d left behind so many years ago. “I’ve just never… done this with a guy before.”

“Me neither,” 90s Kid confesses, although instead of seeming embarrassed he’s smiling. “I just thought if it was with you it, like, would be amazingly awesome. But we can just go back to being awesome friends only, if you want.”

As if to prove his words held weight, 90s Kid moves back from Dan, giving him a moment to breathe and consider the situation. It only takes a moment.

“I’ve got enough friends already,” he says before pulling the younger man into a tight embrace. 90s Kid laughs as he tosses his sunglasses aside and returns to his exploration of the 80s lover.

When Linkara asks later how he ended up with rug burns across most of his body, 90s Kid giggles uncontrollably until the question is hurriedly withdrawn.
