So, I haven't talked much about NaNoWriMo this year. I didn't exactly follow all the rules so I've felt a bit sheepish about it. I had a lot of this story written in out-of-order vignettes and have used Nano to turn it into something (not that I haven't chugged out some serious word count on my own!)
It's an old scrap of a story from many years ago that was stuffed in a text file. Here's the thing, when I decided I wanted to "write" and try for it as a career (back in Film school!) I imagined myself writing an ensemble Rom-Com featuring a cast of twenty-somethings. I have gads of little note files around with characters and bits of plot but instead I ended up spending my twenties on a YA Fantasy (it ate my heart and compelled me, honestly)
So, my Nano,
Ellie & Pete, is my first go at a twenty-something's ensemble cast story. It's told entirely in small vignettes with rotating POV's (four characters total) annnnnd these funny little pauses with omnipotent voice, which I've never done before. They sort of just appeared and now I love them.
This has resulted in my favourite line so far being very simply, this one:
This is where the story turns again because the girl Ellie loves the most important boy.
so, yeah, I'm not even sure what I'll have when I'm done writing this, but I love it so much. I have written songs for it, which isn't new for me, but I have written songs as the characters this time. The songs are theirs, that they write in the story. And they sound different than my songs, which gives me quite a thrill.
Also I keep making more and more Tumblr inspiration boards. I might have a Tumblr problem. The end.
