Time to catch up a bit with everyone.
Saturday I went to the Canton Area Pagans Witches Ball and had a really good time. I was honored to hear Ray Buckland speak and believe that my life is forever changed due to having met him and hearing his talk. I only stayed for a few hours because my pain levels have spiked over the past few days, but I had a good time. I also did some shopping while there and got some nifty stuffs.
Over the weekend, one of my friends boyfriend broke up with her. She knew this was coming and has been totally obsessed with the situation and trying to keep him, even though the man is clearly toxic to be around. I'm actually kind of keeping my distance from her right now because of this obsession. She doesn't see and refuses to see that this is an obsession, and is not healthy at all. I hate to keep her at arm's length, as most of her other friends have ditched her at this point because of her behavior, but I don't have much of a choice. I can only suggest ideas to her, of which she totally shoots down if they aren't what she wants to hear. She's been sucked into the toxic world of the now exboyfriend and until she opens her eyes and sees what this is doing to her... my hands are tied. She has to take responsibility for her actions. She's also questioning whether magick really works because in her mind they'd still be together if it did. I am hitting my head against the wall trying to explain that maybe it worked differently that she expected. Sometimes, depending on how things are worded, the outcome is totally different. Sometimes, the Lord and Lady feel that your outcome needs to be different than what you want it to be. I feel that this is what has happened to her. I won't let her shake my faith, but she needs to understand that by saying some of the things she is saying that she's insulting my faith. She is letting this whole thing totally consume her and I fear for her mental health. She's had mental problems before and I see her losing her grip and having to be hospitalized shortly.
In other news, Katelyn turns 19 on Friday. I can't believe I have a kid that old! I'm amazed by it and happy that she's turned out to be an awesome young lady. She's excelling in her college courses as well.
Tonight I went with my Mom to the Canton Women's Club for a program. They brought in a woman from the
National First Ladies' Library, who did a reinactment of the life of
Elizabeth Keckley.
Elizabeth was born a slave, eventually purchased her freedom, and with her superior seamstress skills eventually became the dressmaker to Mary Todd Lincoln. She also became Mrs. Lincoln's confidante. Before she passed away, Elizabeth became one of the first African Americans to become a professor at a major college, Wilberforce University in Ohio. She taught Domestic Sciences. It was a rather fascinating reinactment and very informational.
While I was there, I had someone take a photograph of me in front of one of the wonderfully decorated mantles in the house.
This is me at 5 months post-op, after a total weight loss of 132lbs. My loss since surgery has been over 70lbs.
