There is the most annoying classmate in my Egyptian Art and Archaeology class. For the entire semester she has arrived to class late, insists on weaving through those of us seated in the front to get to the back, rummages through her bag and plastic bags, making as much noise as she can, and regails us all with questions and anecdotes that have nothing to do with the lecture.

Consider her two week attempt to get our professor to admit that there are ties between ancient Egyptian art and culture with southwest Native Americans. Yeah.

Our instructor has never addressed her behavior, and finally my fellow graduate student told her of our complaints. Instead of addressing the woman directly, she sent an email to all of us, stating that some concerns had been raised and that we should all be considerate of our classmates. I cannot tell you how much of an impact this will likely have on this particular woman....

This is all leading up to Monday, and my 'interaction' with her. There is another student who suffers from migraines as well, and we were talking about them before class, sharing stories and commiserating over the pain and struggles of a migraine-infested life. And wouldn't you know, out of the back of the room, comes unsolicited opinion number 654:

Her: "Do you ladies drink enough water?"
Me: ??
Her: "Because headaches are caused by dehydration."
Me: "Yeah, but these are not headaches. These are migraines, which are completely different."
Her: "No, but studies have shown that inproper hydration is the cause of most headaches. You should drink more water."
Me: "Look, you're talking to someone who has had migraines her entire life. I think I know enough about them to recognize it is not a simple matter of hydration and it is ridiculous to suggest so!"

That last line of mine was very snappish; the tone surprised me after I said it, but I felt sufficiently appeased. My graduate friends were smiling to themselves, and the woman looked stunned and didn't say another word about it. I was so frustrated at her from the whole semester, and for her to come at me and suggest that my pain was the result of not enough water and spouting it as though she were the scientist who had conducted the experiment ticked me off beyond belief.

I don't usually advocate snapping at someone, but in this instance, I am glad that I did. *evil grin*
