So i am at the pool today and this lady was there and we were talking - of course- about the state of the union.....
she had a lot of good points and she is a teacher...late 50's early 60s probably....and she says that there has been a slow movement since the 50's to eradicate the middle class and create a socialist society with 2 levels - rich and poor....
and that Obama is about as close to a socialist/marxist as you can get....which my dad has said also...
anyways, i'm wondering is this true? are they trying to get rid of us? if so, why? to what end? its not a good system - look at the history of countries with socialist governments.....and where do you draw the line between helping fellow man and taking away all accountability so that they can continue to play the victim and contine rec'ving assistance, etc...
and then i was having a conversation a couple of weeks ago with someone who said that the US needs to decide what they want....if they want gov't healthcare, fine - then be prepared to pay for it....because the fact is that if you look at countries with gov't subsidized health care, they have very high taxes. ....in Britain, people pay as much as 50% of their income to taxes...is THAT really what we want??
another thing that she said was the same movement was towards dumbing down our education and children.....which i know this because for example, here in Florida, we have a state test called the FCAT...and for years there has been controversey that the test was slanted....which makes no sense to me - either you know the material or you dont....and people were actually pissed that their kid couldnt pass it...ok now my question would be WHY isnt my kid passing it? is it the states fault for setting the bar too high?!?! or is it the parent's fault for not holding their child accountable for their education?
my kid has always had very high FCAT scores without hardly trying.....but she is a proactive (for the most part) student.....but i have always held her accountable for her performance...there is no "o poor u what did that mean teacher do - expect you to learn?" attitude in my house....it's "what did you drop the ball on? i dont care if you were absent, sick whatever -it's your responsiblity to get the work and get it turned in ON TIME" You'll get the grade if you put forth the effort....
and i was thinking the other night that she hasnt had much history....no state history which was a requirement for us as was government, etc....
and what is it about the US that makes us think we only need ourselves and dont need to be aware of the world around us...HELLO!?! its the melting pot!! half the population does not speak English, yet we dont teach foreign language until high school...my friends from other countries speak anywhere from 2 or 3 to 5 languages learned in their school system from a young age....
globalization is a reality and is driving current market prices on everything from toothpaste to oil to food.....the shit is only going to get worse as more and more countries develop and compete for world resources....
how can one of the richest, most powerful countries in the world be this far behind psychologically and emotionally???
and if there is such a movement to "dumb down our kids" (watch the movie "idiocracy" - is this where we're headed? its stupid but seriously) and eradicate us middle classers who make up 75% of the US population, then why the hell arent we doing anything about it....we do, after all, have a voice....
are we such sheep??
doesnt this scare anyone else?
