Automobiles are like lovers....
Can't live with 'em -- can't live without 'em! I have a Volkswagen and just recently I had the replacement of the timing belt priced out by one of the local garages here in Cambridge. A month ago I was quoted $550 to do the job - including replacing the water pump since they'd have the front of the engine off anyway.
So I show up to get the work done.... "Oh, I don't know how I could have given that quote out!" he said. "With a 1.8 Turbo engine that job will cost over $1,000 dollars to do." "I must have been quoting you on the price for a 2.0 liter regular motor!"
About this time my trust goes winging out the window. Double the money! I ask him to do only the 90K checkup and leave everything else as is. Very disappointed as I had driven all the way up from Rhode Island to get this done.
Hopping mad and determined to bend the wind mills in my favor - I logged on and started calling dealerships. Where I bought the car will do the timing belt for $675.00! SOLD!! I made the appointment and the garage in Cambridge has lost a customer.
